Has a wonderful painted front cover with Marine’s name painted to the front right “Smead C Posey”, US and Marine Corps flags, crossed rifles and a Carabao/water buffalo skull. Worn but visible is Cavite P. I under the flags. 178 total original photos of sites and scenes around Shanghai, Cavite and Tientsin. Some photos are missing and onion skin divider pages are cracked brittle or coming loose. Multiple photos that depict the Boeing or China Clipper, Chinese scenes, Philippine girlfriends, on the beach, on the range, Cavite barracks and buildings, some colorized photos, Cavite USMC basketball team, a group photo, the salt beds, and Enlisted Club at Tientsin. Second album is a scrap book, someone has scratched out the “S”, kinda funny… It has about 12 pages of photos, receipts, signatures, chits, a couple of bulletins, postcards and comes with over 50 loose scrap or cutouts from Magazines and newspaper, subject mainly military, poems, and scenes of Philippines and China. 1937 Imperial Japanese Navy Training Photo Album Book RARE Pre-WWII. The pages are divided by thin rice paper that has printed Japanese Text. The pages of the book are full of Japanese Text as well, especially the rear final pages which look to be perhaps a listing to all the crew members! This Vintage Japanese Imperial Navy album is in good condition for its age, showing some mild edge wear to the covers. The binding is original and is holding strong, albeit slightly loose. The interior pages shows light-mild scuffing and coloration from age/display. The rice paper dividers are in good shape, with only 1 missing and some light creasing present in a few pages. Post-World War I U. Army Balloon Company – Photograph Album – 1920s. New England Photograph Album featuring what appears to be the Army’s 531st Balloon Company at Boston circa 1921. Various New England locations. The album contains 58 black and white photographs, most measuring approximately 2.5″ x 4.5″. Most photographs are in nice shape and held to the page with corner mounts; a few have light corner creases. Minor wear to the cover and pages. The highlight of the album is a section with 19 photographs of a post-WWI Army Balloon Company. One of the photographs is annotated on the reverse in pencil, 531st BC. The 531st Balloon Company was a reserve unit located in the Boston area in the early 1920s. The images document the service of a Marine, assigned to Marine Scouting Squadron VS-1M and begin with photographs of Marine Barracks San Diego, followed by the units deployment to Guam. It helped establish Orote Field at the Apra Harbor Naval Station, the first Marine aviation base in the Pacific. It concludes with images of the Philippines and China. In 1925 fighting between Chinese warlords reached the city of Shanghai, and twice during the year small contingents of Marines landed in the city to protect American interests. In 1927, a more serious threat blossomed as one of the Chinese forces pushed towards the city crushing all opposition in its path and panicking the International Settlement. Remembering the Boxer Rebellion and fearful of recent Communist depredations, the residents of the community clamored for their governments to provide protection.
