Pre WW2 1927 China US Army 15th Regiment Tientsin 320+ Photographs Tianjin Photo Album was put together by US Army Soldier who served with the 15th Regiment Company “L” in Tientsin China. Not sure on exact date or name of the Soldier but is between 1925 to 1927 I believe. There is a large group photograph in beginning of album very sharp (10.5 by 7 inches) that may show George Marshall who was commanding the 15th Regiment at that time. I have attached many photographs some are scanned and other taken with a camera. Some loose photos and some missing on the pages. Photo are not stuck in, however the corner tabs have stuck to the front of the images. So left on the images is a small black remnant on the photo corner. Some corners have disconnected from the corner holders. These probably can be moistened and removed if so desired. I did pull a few off to see if there was some description on the reverse. I counted over 330 photographs. Over 90% are China with the remainder Philippines and a few Stateside. Please scroll down to see the photos of the album. I took some photos with camera and another group with a flatbed scanner. Photographs are a mix of Postcard sized Photos 5.5 by 3.25, 4.25 by 2.5 inches and 3.5 and 2.5 inches. This listing is for a scarce late 1920’s CHINA MARINE 8″ x 11″ personal leather cover photo album put together by USMC private George C. Lewis assigned to the 10th Marines. Contains over 113 photos and documents. Less than 10% are family photos the remainder being USMC marines in various period uniforms and activities. Henderson that arrived in Shanghai China on 2 May 1927 with Marines for the garrison there and remained in China for 6 months. The detachment was assigned to protect American Nationals in the war-torn China area. A great find for the USMC collector and historians. ORIGINAL RARE PRE WWII 1930s MARINE AVIATOR PHOTO ALBUM FROM WWII USMC FIGHTER ACE. Bought from veterans estate. This USMC officer was commissioned and completed flight training in 1936. Served as XO of VMF-111 in Samoa, CO of the famous VMF-121 flying off Guadalcanal. Flying F4Fs he shot down 6 Zeros in 2 days in December 1942 earning him a Silver Star. Lt Col in 1943 and commanded MAG-51 and then MGVG-4 flying F4Us off the USS Cape Gloucester. 2 victories over a Judy and Francis in 1945 brought his tally to 8. During the Korean War he was deputy CO of Marine Air Group 21 and again flying combat earned a second Silver Star. Retired in 1959 as a Brig General. This lot consists of his pre WWII photo album. Amazing album from the mid 1930s, a rare look into between the wars Naval / Marine Corps Aviation. 307 photos, many, many aircraft, crashes, cadets, class photos. Some leave photos / girlfriends but the vast majority are great aviation shots. Very well done and captioned.
