Original early 1930’s photograph of Captain George Bowers, USMC. As a 2nd Lt in WW1, Bowers was awarded the Navy Cross and Distinguished Service Cross for action at Thiacourt, France in 1918 while with the 81st Company, 6th MG Battalion. He was also awarded two Silver Stars, two Purple Hearts and three French Croix de guerre Medals. He earned a battlefield commission and was a “Mustang” Marine. He also served in Haiti and the USS Arizona. He is shown in his dress blue uniform and cap with Sam Browne sword belt, EGAs and ribbons denoting his heroism and awards. 81st Company, 6th Machine-Gun Battalion, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A. Date of Action: September 15, 1918. The Navy Cross is presented to George Bower, Second Lieutenant, U. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 81st Company, 6th Machine-Gun Battalion, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A. In action near Thiaucourt, France, September 15, 1918. Aiding an infantry platoon, which had been forced to withdraw because of heavy machine-gun and artillery fire, Lieutenant Bower, while suffering from severe wounds, kept his guns in position, consolidating his location, and preventing the danger of an enemy counterattack. Born: at Torresdale, Pennsylvania. Home Town: Torresdale, Pennsylvania. Other Award: Distinguished Service Cross (Same Action). This photo was submitted by him and was removed at some point from his file. Marines were required to submit a photo for the next rank and have their name on the back. I believe it is his printing. USMC WWI & 2nd Nicaraguan Campaign Medals with scarce Nicaraguan Order of Merit. France bar on the WWI Victory Medal. The USMC 2nd Nicaraguan Campaign Medal is marked Medallic Arts on the edge. None of the medals are as are numbered. These Nicaraguan Order of Merit awards are fairly rare and seldom offered for sale. The Nicaraguan Order of Merit ribbon is a replacement and there is no brooch. Any type of brooch could be easily added. This medal displays very well.

Period late 2020s or early 30s. This in an exceptional item, in excellent condition, min stain, with period PFC rank insignia, has buttons of later period (I think). Has four front pockets, epaulets and hanger in the neck. This item is very firm and has been nicely protected and lightly clean. Sleeves are 32.5, armpit to same 19 inches, length from collar rear hem 32 inches. Collar has button holes for EGA (2). The hanger is very firm and the tailor block is strong. Gorgeous and very rare, possibly one-of-a-kind emblem. What you see here is a theater-made officer cover EGA based off the enlisted P-1908. The rope was removed presumably by grinding or filing, and then the emblem was sand cast. After casting, the wire rope was added and the eagle’s head wear twisted in the opposite direction. I believe this to be German-made rather than French, based on German-made sand-casted collar emblems I have seen over the years. This is a reproduction guidon used by the U. Marines – Mounted Detachment in China during the 1930s. In the lower right corner of the frame is a photograph of the original guidon, which is on display U. Naval yard in Washington D. Also in the frame is a reproduction leather patch, 6 inches in diameter of the same era, also dealing with the mounted Marines. Richard Bonham, which shows the flag on page 57. The other book is a self published piece, The China Marine written by Clem D. Russell dealing with his time in China, 1930 – 1932 with the American Legation Guard. The book was written by Mr. Russell and typed by him and “xerox” copies were made of the book. Russell and only photo copies now exist. This collection is in a frame and the price only reflects the value of the collection not the frame, the frame as free.
