British India General Service Medal Northwest Frontier 1937-39 – R. Officially impressed 6894 Rfn. Khushal Sing Butola, 1-18 R. The 1st Battalion, 18th Royal Garhwal Rifles (1-18 Garhwal Rifles) actively served during the tribal uprisings on the North-West Frontier (now Pakistan) from 1937 to 1939. The battalion was engaged in counter-insurgency and regional pacification operations, countering Pashtun tribal guerrillas in regions like Waziristan. British India General Service Medal Northwest Frontier 1936-37 – 1-16 Punjab Regt. Officially impressed 8904 L-Naik Mohd. In October 1937, the 1/16 Battalion was assigned to the 3rd (Jhelum) Brigade at Ghariom and subsequently moved to Mir Ali to secure the vital Bannu-Razmak road. Rare original 1920’s photograph and 1919 dated signature of Logan Feland, a General in the Marine Corps who was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, 5 Silver Stars and the Navy and Army Distinguished Service Medals during WW1 and was commander of the 5th Regiment. He is prominently noted for his heroic actions at Belleau Wood and as commander at Soissons, Blanc Mont and the Argonne. His original signature comes from when he was commander of the 2nd Brigade and part of the Guardia Nacional Dominicana in 1919.
Compiled by his relative Taga Muneo, this limited non-commercial edition contains Taga’s handwritten poems, essays, ink paintings, and sketches created during his long service in China – including scenes of Nanking, Peking, and Manchuria. Taga served over 20 years as a cavalry officer and military attaché in China from the late Meiji to early Showa era. A valuable firsthand record of Japanese military culture, art, and diplomacy in prewar East Asia. Not listed in the National Diet Library; likely a private printing circulated only among family and comrades. Published: December 10, 1935 (Showa 10). Size: 19 × 12.5 cm / Japanese-style binding. Identified 21″ presentation office’s swagger stick to then Colonel Leo “Dutch Hermle, USMC. Hermle is one of the most distinguished Marines of all time. This stick bears the inscription Colonel L. Hermle Garde d’ Haiti 1930-34 engraved on a silver marked band. Hermle as a 2nd Lt was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism at Meuse Argonne, 2 Purple Hearts, and 2 Silver Stars for action in WW1. As a Captain, he served as a Colonel in the Garde d’ Haiti from 1930-34 with Commander roles. He served at Guadalcanal in 1942 with the 2nd Marine Division and would be awarded a Navy Cross for his actions as Assistant Division Commander of the 5th Marine Division on Iwo Jima in Feb 1945.
