1932 German Auer DEGEA Gas Mask Training Oranienburg Gasschutzschule Prewar Book
Rare original 1932 German DEGEA / Auergesellschaft gas-mask and respiratory-protection training publication from the famous Auer Gasschutzschule at Oranienburg, near Berlin. This large-format illustrated technical pamphlet is an original Sonderdruck (special offprint) from issues 5/6, 1932 of “Die Gasmaske – Zeitschrift für Atemschutz”, the specialist German journal devoted to gas masks, respiratory protection and protective equipment. The article is titled. Wie lernt und lehrt man die Handhabung von Atemschutzgeräten? It was written by Pepp Seidl of Berlin, identified on the publication as an instructor at the Gasschutzschule in Oranienburg. This is an especially interesting piece of pre-WWII German gas-protection history, dating from the final year of the Weimar Republic. Published in 1932, it predates the Third Reich and World War II, but documents the development of German gas-mask, respiratory-protection and civil/industrial gas-defense training that would continue and expand during the 1930s. DEGEA / Auergesellschaft was one of Germany’s important manufacturers and developers of gas masks, respirators, filters and respiratory-protection equipment. Rather than being simply an equipment advertisement, this publication provides a fascinating contemporary look at how German personnel were actually trained to fit, wear and work while using gas masks and respiratory equipment. A major attraction of this publication is its extensive period photographic content. The booklet contains numerous black-and-white photographs showing training and practical exercises at the Gasschutzschule Oranienburg, including. Gas-mask fitting and donning instruction. Men performing physical exercises while masked. Respiratory-protection training under physical load. DEGEA breathing/protective equipment in actual use. Exercise and testing equipment. Groups of trainees wearing protective equipment. One illustrated section is headed. “Augenblicksbilder aus der Gasschutzschule in Oranienburg”. Snapshots from the Gas Protection School in Oranienburg. The photographs provide exceptional visual documentation of early German gas-mask and breathing-apparatus training. One image is captioned “Rettungsübung des Stahlhelms”, documenting a rescue exercise involving the interwar German veterans’ organization Der Stahlhelm. Other illustrations show training with the DEGEA-CO-Gerät, an early Auer respiratory-protection apparatus developed for working in hazardous atmospheres. / Auergesellschaft Publication: Die Gasmaske – Zeitschrift für Atemschutz Issue: Sonderdruck aus Nr. 5/6 Date: 1932 Author: Pepp Seidl, Berlin Affiliation: Lehrer an der Gasschutzschule in Oranienburg Language: German Format: Illustrated technical pamphlet / journal offprint Pages: Approximately 8 pages plus front cover Size: Approximately 11 7/8″ × 8 1/4″ Illustrations: Numerous original black-and-white training photographs. Very good original condition for a fragile German technical publication dating from 1932. The printed pages and photographic illustrations remain crisp, clear and highly displayable. The paper retains good overall presentation with relatively limited age toning. Two old filing/binder holes are present along the left margin and continue through the publication, consistent with archival or binder storage of technical offprints of this type. There is localized wear and oxidation around portions of the binding area. No major tears or extensive losses are evident in the photographs. The important printed text and photographic content remain well preserved. Please carefully examine all photographs, as they form an important part of the condition description. A scarce and highly visual piece of German pre-WWII gas-mask, Atemschutz, Gasschutz, industrial-safety and civil-defense history, particularly desirable to collectors of Auer / Auergesellschaft / DEGEA equipment, German gas masks, Luftschutz-related material, Weimar-era militaria, technical ephemera and the development of WWII-era respiratory protection. Guaranteed original period item. Please visit RAD Militaria and Collectibles for additional original WWI, WWII, Imperial German, Austro-Hungarian, military-document, photograph, map and historical collectibles. New and unusual pieces are added regularly, so please check our other listings and add our store to your favorite sellers. / Auergesellschaft Publication: Die Gasmaske – Zeitschrift für Atemschutz Author: Pepp Seidl Location: Oranienburg / Berlin, Germany Subject: Gas Mask / Respiratory Protection / Atemschutz / Gasschutz Language: German Material: Paper Features: Illustrated / Original Period Photographs Dimensions: Approx. 11 7/8″ × 8 1/4″ Number of Pages: Approx. 8 pages plus cover Conflict: Leave blank / Not Applicable – dated 1932 Modified Item: No known modern modification.

Prewar Japanese Aviation Nakajima Aircraft Founder Chikuhei Biography 1933
Published in 1933, this is a prewar Japanese biography of Chikuhei Nakajima, the founder of Nakajima Aircraft Company. Nakajima was involved in Japanese naval aviation from its very early years. After serving as a naval engineer and studying aviation, he established an aircraft research organization in 1917, which later developed into Nakajima Aircraft, one of Japan’s most important aircraft manufacturers. During World War II, Nakajima Aircraft became a major producer of Japanese military aircraft, including the Ki-43 Hayabusa “Oscar” and Ki-84 Hayate Frank. The famous A6M Zero Fighter was designed by Mitsubishi, but large numbers were also manufactured by Nakajima. Nakajima also produced the Sakae radial engine, which powered many Zero fighters. This small 40-page book was published in 1933-eight years before the attack on Pearl Harbor. That early date is one of its most interesting features: it presents Nakajima before his company became one of the giant aircraft manufacturers of wartime Japan. The book includes a portrait of Chikuhei Nakajima and describes his early life, naval engineering career, interest in aviation, aircraft development, the growth of Nakajima Aircraft, and his later political career. In other words, this is not a wartime aircraft manual. It is a contemporary prewar look at the man who helped build the Japanese aviation industry that would later produce many of Japan’s best-known military aircraft. There is age-related toning, staining, and wear. Please review the photographs carefully for condition. An interesting historical piece for collectors of Japanese military aviation, Nakajima Aircraft, Zero Fighter, Ki-43 Oscar, Ki-84 Frank, and prewar aviation history. Own a Piece of History. This is a prewar Japanese porcelain vase made by Fukagawa Seiji, closely associated with the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Imperial Household. The front is decorated in underglaze blue with a large Imperial Japanese Navy anchor, plum blossoms, and above them the royal crest of the Takamatsu-no-miya branch of the Imperial Family. The Takamatsu-no-miya family was one of the branches of Japan’s Imperial Household, and Prince Takamatsu himself served as an officer in the Imperial Japanese Navy. Rather than going too deeply into his personal history, the important point here is the unusual combination of an Imperial-family crest and a naval anchor on the same piece. The maker is also highly significant. Fukagawa Seiji, founded in 1894 in Arita, became one of Japan’s most prestigious porcelain manufacturers. It won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition and later became an official supplier to the Imperial Household. The underside of this vase bears the Fukagawa Seiji maker’s mark. Fukagawa also had a documented connection with the Imperial Japanese Navy. In 1916, the company became a designated Navy factory and supplied tableware for naval officers. In 1942, it was further designated as a Navy-supervised factory, producing and supplying specialized tableware and military-use ceramics. This makes Fukagawa more than simply a famous porcelain maker: during the prewar and wartime period, it had an official manufacturing relationship with the Imperial Japanese Navy. No original box or supporting provenance documents are included with this piece, but the combination of: Imperial-family crest Imperial Japanese Navy anchor Fukagawa Seiji maker’s mark makes it a particularly interesting example of Japanese military and Imperial-era porcelain. I have not found evidence that Fukagawa continued as an official designated supplier to Japan’s postwar Self-Defense Forces. Its strongest documented military connection belongs to the era of the Imperial Japanese Navy. A small porcelain vase, but one that brings together three powerful elements of prewar Japan: the Imperial Household, the Navy, and one of Japan’s most prestigious porcelain makers. Antique original Chinese made pith helmet, otherwise known as a sun helmet. The brim is fabric covered cork and does have some damage. I would consider the entire helmet to be very very fragile. The paper manufacturers tag inside is similar to tags found in Japanese helmets. The label reads which roughly translates to Produced by the factory of Guangda Industrial Co. I do not know exactly when the helmet was produced, who would have worn it, and whether it is a military helmet or not. The closest match I have found online was described as a Chinese made helmet for use in Imperial Japan. This helmet appears to fit the same description, but I consider it to be an unknown as I have no proof that it was used by Japan and unknown year of manufacture. Photographed in natural daylight. Photos may not accurately represent actual colors. Photos are of actual items you will receive. Please see photos for condition. I can send more photos if needed. Please keep an eye on my other listings to see more rare patches, helmets, and other military collectibles for sale. If you need more pictures, just ask.

Compiled by his relative Taga Muneo, this limited non-commercial edition contains Taga’s handwritten poems, essays, ink paintings, and sketches created during his long service in China – including scenes of Nanking, Peking, and Manchuria. Taga served over 20 years as a cavalry officer and military attaché in China from the late Meiji to early Showa era. A valuable firsthand record of Japanese military culture, art, and diplomacy in prewar East Asia. The book was issued by a naval research publisher in Tokyo and presents the true contemporary view of Japan’s naval power before WWII, not a postwar reprint or retrospective work. What this book contains. Battleships, cruisers, aircraft carriers, and submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Naval aviation, seaplanes, and flight operations. Torpedoes, naval mines, and modern naval weapons. Sailors’ daily life, onboard operations, and training scenes. Naval ports, facilities, and fleet overviews with specifications. The volume is heavily illustrated with authentic period photographs, allowing collectors to visually study the IJN at its peak development stage. Published years before the Pacific War, this book reflects how the Imperial Japanese Navy presented its strength to the public at the time. It is a valuable primary source for researchers, historians, and serious naval collectors. Unlike modern publications, this book preserves the original language, layout, photography, and ideology of the era. Visible age wear, edge wear, and toning due to age.
