A real SAFARI WITH HAT from a part of the world where they were used. Consistent with age and use. Please see all photos as they are part of the description. Some discoloration of cloth covering inside and out from age and use. Leather strapping intact but some leather treatment would help condition and preserve it for the future. Antique original Chinese made pith helmet, otherwise known as a sun helmet. The brim is fabric covered cork and does have some damage. I would consider the entire helmet to be very very fragile. The paper manufacturers tag inside is similar to tags found in Japanese helmets. Which roughly translates to Produced by the factory of Guangda Industrial Co. I do not know exactly when the helmet was produced, who would have worn it, and whether it is a military helmet or not. The closest match I have found online was described as a Chinese made helmet for use in Imperial Japan. This helmet appears to fit the same description, but I consider it to be an unknown as I have no proof that it was used by Japan and no year of manufacture. Photographed in natural daylight. Montreal, Canada, Nova Scotia Princess Louise Fusiliers Regiment Pith Helmet size 7 signed Sgt. Helmet also has another name written on the inside which has been marked over. There is a stamped mark “SJE, 105″ as well. Original Princess Louise Fusiliers Hat Badge is present as well as the leather headliner but helmet is missing the chin strap which has been replaced by a metal chain. The brass spike on top of the helmet is intact but may have had a repair at its base. Please refer to all of the listing photos for additional detail and condition. A very good worn Pre WW2 Canadian 57th Regiment Tropical Pith Helmet, shows use and at least one coat of white blanco, which was done to keep them clean looking, though a good looking example. Very nice plate to the front, in keeping with the look of the helmet. Chinstrap complete and undamaged, liner in very good condition, with maker details to crown, overall a nice helmet.
