Rare original 1932 German DEGEA / Auergesellschaft gas-mask and respiratory-protection training publication from the famous Auer Gasschutzschule at Oranienburg, near Berlin. This large-format illustrated technical pamphlet is an original Sonderdruck (special offprint) from issues 5/6, 1932 of “Die Gasmaske – Zeitschrift für Atemschutz”, the specialist German journal devoted to gas masks, respiratory protection and protective equipment. The article is titled. Wie lernt und lehrt man die Handhabung von Atemschutzgeräten? It was written by Pepp Seidl of Berlin, identified on the publication as an instructor at the Gasschutzschule in Oranienburg. This is an especially interesting piece of pre-WWII German gas-protection history, dating from the final year of the Weimar Republic. Published in 1932, it predates the Third Reich and World War II, but documents the development of German gas-mask, respiratory-protection and civil/industrial gas-defense training that would continue and expand during the 1930s. DEGEA / Auergesellschaft was one of Germany’s important manufacturers and developers of gas masks, respirators, filters and respiratory-protection equipment. Rather than being simply an equipment advertisement, this publication provides a fascinating contemporary look at how German personnel were actually trained to fit, wear and work while using gas masks and respiratory equipment. A major attraction of this publication is its extensive period photographic content. Very good original condition for a fragile German technical publication dating from 1932. The printed pages and photographic illustrations remain crisp, clear and highly displayable. The paper retains good overall presentation with relatively limited age toning. Two old filing/binder holes are present along the left margin and continue through the publication, consistent with archival or binder storage of technical offprints of this type. There is localized wear and oxidation around portions of the binding area. No major tears or extensive losses are evident in the photographs. The important printed text and photographic content remain well preserved. Please carefully examine all photographs, as they form an important part of the condition description. This is an original WWII-era Imperial Japanese Navy carrying case for the Type 93 No. Important: The gas mask itself is NOT included. This listing is for the original carrying/storage case only. One of the most interesting features is the original instruction sheet attached inside the lid, titled Instructions for the Type 93 No. 2 Gas Mask, Type 4. Its survival inside the original case makes this a particularly interesting historical reference piece. The Type 93 gas mask was protective equipment used by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Such equipment was intended not only as protection against chemical warfare agents, but also for hazardous conditions that could occur aboard warships and at naval installations, including smoke and potentially harmful fumes resulting from fires, explosions, shelling, or bombing. This case was specifically designed for the storage and transportation of that protective equipment. It is constructed as a sturdy military carrying case and still retains internal fabric straps. The original Japanese instruction sheet remains attached to the inside of the lid. While Japanese Army equipment survives in relatively large quantities, original Imperial Japanese Navy equipment is generally encountered less frequently. Specialized accessories such as dedicated gas-mask cases are also often separated from their original equipment over the decades. For collectors of Japanese naval militaria, the surviving original instruction sheet is an especially attractive feature. The case shows significant age and service wear, including paint loss, scratches, surface rust, staining, and general deterioration consistent with an approximately 90-year-old military item. The instruction sheet also shows age-related wear. Gas mask, filter canister, and other equipment are NOT included. Only the carrying case shown in the photographs is included. We came across one of these beauties. A late 1920’s M1A1 US Service Respirator. Packing list dated 7/29. In almost pristine condition for being almost 100 years old, with original packing slip! WW2 Polish Army Wz. 24 Gas Mask & Cannister 1929 Mfg. Original Early & VERY RARE. 24 also popularly known as RS. From the first letters of the names of three constructors -‘Robert, Saunier, & Cantot’. It was the first gas mask produced in Poland in the interwar period. Being made under French license, it was modeled on the A. French Army Gas Mask. These masks were produced in the Military Gas Equipment Factory in Radom, Poland. In the interwar period, until 1939, this mask was the basic anti-chemical protection measure used by Polish Army units. 24 consists of a face part with a harness and an absorber. The set also includes a metal cylindrical can for carrying the mask. Eyeglass lenses are made of celluloid (hydrocellulose, cellophane). They are framed with aluminum rings (the ring to the left eye is slightly detached to the top). These rings, in turn, are attached to a rubber frame glued between both layers of the face piece and additionally stitched. The headband of the mask is made of elastic bands (two frontal, two parietal, occipital and clasp). In addition, the mask is equipped with an inelastic strap that allows it to be hung around the neck during a gas emergency. The mask has lost some elasticity due to age but is not brittle. Markings are located on the face of the mask. Military Factory of Anti-Gas Equipment and the year of production: 1929. After the introduction the new Wz. 32 Design, the Wz. 24 was gradually withdrawn from the front line units of the Polish Army and transferred to paramilitary organizations. They were included in the equipment of the League of Anti-Aircraft and Anti-Gas Defense (LOPP). LOPP masks can be recognized by additional stamping. However, despite the modernization of the Polish army, the Wz. 24 masks were commonly used in Cavalry, Artillery and certain second-line units during the September 1939 Campaign. In 1938 this mask was given to LOPP, according to stamps / Size – M (small) A fine addition to any WWII Polish Army equipment collection, these gas masks are exceptionally difficult to find in any condition.
