Navy Sailor Photo Album Journal Diary Gallipoli Jerusalem Syria

Navy Sailor Photo Album Journal Diary Gallipoli Jerusalem Syria
Navy Sailor Photo Album Journal Diary Gallipoli Jerusalem Syria. Photo Album Depicting Navy Man’s Worldwide Tours. String-tied black cloth over flexible card. 142 pages pages with 490 black and white photographs inserted into corner mounts. Most photos measure from 2½ x 3½ to 3 x 5 and all but 14 are captioned. Additionally, 16 pages of typescript bound in before the photos + Epsel’s Navy identification card and discharge papers. Album good, because it lacks its front cover and has heavy edge wear; otherwise near fine with near fine or better photos, though some are faded; three photos lacking. An immense photo album detailing a sailor’s exploits on three long cruises in the early 1920s. Henry Epsel spent many months at sea and was rarely without a camera. The album starts with his typescript timeline that provides dates, places and short notes of experiences such as in September 1922 when his group participated in getting tens of thousands of refugees out of Smyrna. He loved Australia, writing, most wonderful welcome and reception ever received by sailors. Beautiful women and girls are plenty here. We were forced into company of girls at all times. It did not pay for us to get drunk as we lost out on too much of good times. With the exception of Russia, he took photos of nearly every place he visited including Beirut, Jaffa, England, Holland, Cuba, the Panama Canal, California, Athens, Constantinople and more. There are moving images of makeshift cemeteries at Gallipoli and quite a few street shots in many of the cities. We see worshipers at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, ruins at Balbak, Syria, and ships filled with refugees. A self proclaimed ladies’ man, there’s a number of photos of the beauties Epsel left on land including Rotterdam Special, my Dutch girl and my Spanish queen. While this is more a travel album than a military one there’s well over 100 photos of ships and maneuvers as well as life aboard his ships. A comprehensive look at the world through the eyes of a sailor with a good number of well composed images. This item is offered by Langdon Manor Books, LLC, antiquarian booksellers. The negotiations, once again held on board the. Lasted from 23 to 28 April. Included in these photos are rebels, soldiers, buildings, dead bodies in the street, and more. Amazing to say the least! Deutschland Erwacht 1933: 101-200 Print Run! This is a rare, early Third Reich book containing dozens of original period photos in color. This was the first very high quality publishing effort of the Nazi Party in 1933. This huge 9-5/8 x 12-3/8 inch, 150+ page hard cover cigarette card album, Deutschland Erwacht (Germany Awakened), was published for the NSDAP in Germany by Cigaretten Bildendienst of Altona-Bahrenfeld in 1933. The book consists of German text, six full-page illustrations in color and black & white, over 60 color photos pasted in (most 1/2-page size), over 160 black & white photos pasted in, and one huge fold-out photo taken at a Nazi Party rally in Nürnberg that measures 12 inches tall by over 4 FEET long! The brown cloth cover is embossed with gold blocking of the title and the profile of a Nazi against an embossed swastika in an oak leaf wreath. The book covers every conceivable aspect of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party including major personalities, early meetings, the Beer Hall Putsch, electioneering, the Braunes Haus, fighting the Communists, the SA and SS, the Hitler Youth (HJ), BdM, Party Rallies, winning power in Germany, Hitler at the Berghof and at Mad Ludwig’s castle Neuschwanstein, etc. Photos include Hitler, Stabschef der SA Viktor Lutze , Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess, Reichsminister Hermann Göring, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, Julius Schreck, Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Horst Wessel, Jakob Grimminger and the Blood Flag (Blutfahne), HJ Leader Baldur von Schirach and Julius Streicher in Nürnberg, the Italian Avantguardia, Ritter von Epp, all the Putsch martyrs, Stosstruppe Hitler, Hitler’s birth house in Braunau, the first office of the NSDAP, the first Reichsparteitag in München in 1923, Deutscher Tag in Nürnberg in 1923, rows of Deutschland Erwache standards, Reinhard Heydrich, SS-General Joseph “Sepp” Dietrich, the beginning of the Reichautobahn, etc. This color copy (from the 101 – 200 print run) of Deutschland Erwacht has the full-page portrait of Ernst Röhm which was later replaced with Stabchef der SA Viktor Lutze after the Night of the Long Knives in June 1934 (page 52). Please see the photos of this book which have shadows from me trying to take them, I can provide more. The cover is present and wrapped in an archival jacket. Tens crews launched their B-24 Liberators into the dark, cold morning air on March 14, 1945 from. William Bradley flew next to Lt. Who commanded the aircraft as they headed to bomb the Marshaling Yard at Nove Zamky, Hungary. Their crew of twelve included two navigators, a radar nav, bombardier. Engineer, radio operator, and four gunners. The overall mission was deemed a success, but the only man to survive on Martzs crew had a dramatic tale to tell. Memorial Day, where we remember those who have died in battle, seemed an appropriate time to tell a story about a distant Parks relative, Lt. William Bradley, who died in World War II. My husband had become particularly interested in him (a cousin once removed) after he discovered William and his brother were fellow Georgia Tech yellow jackets. The oldest brother graduated in 1941, and William entered that year as a freshman. William left college two years later in 1943, as many young men did, to go to war. He was commissioned a 2LT in the Army Air Corp in 1943 and assigned to the 781st Bomb Squadron, 465 Bomb Group, 15th Air Force, flying B-24 Liberators. The the unit trained at McCook field Nebraska and operated until the war in Europe ended in 1945. The only man to survive William Bradleys last flight was engineer, T/Sgt. Beeson, who told his story about the fateful flight. Today that story and many others are printed in a booklet. Of the units history published by the 781. Below is an abbreviated version of that event told by Beeson in 1987. The bombing run to the marshaling yard was not different than many others. The flak, while not as heavy as theyd encountered before, had pegged the formations location. The crew successfully unloaded their bombs over the target and were preparing to turn and head home. The tail gunner reported flak following their line of flight, bursting closer and closer. An explosion shook their craft. Fire burst on the pilots side as flak came up from underneath his seat. A single glance revealed Martz had died. The last thing Beeson saw on the flight. Deck as he hit the bailout alarm was Lt. Bradley attempting to control the damaged aircraft. Beeson grabbed his chute and dropped into the bomb bay where the bombardier joined. Him with chute in hand. The plane lurched, and Beeson fell out, facing up where he could see the plane above going around and around. He never saw where it crashed. Reported three or four chutes leaving the plane, but the unfriendly Hungarians below with their town in flames likely left them no chance for survival. Beeson lived to tell the tale because. He was rescued from the villagers hands by a German soldier. So many people have died in WWII and other wars our nation has fought. I appreciate their sacrifice to allow my friends and family to live in this great country. Some of the other photos in the book are. Photo shows WW11 – crew 29/ C.
