A rare original large-format poster titled “Gendai Kaisen Gainen-zu” (Modern Naval Battle Concept Chart). Issued by the Yushukai Foundation on June 15, Taisho 14 (1925). 205 × 77 cm (80 × 30 in). This highly detailed lithograph illustrates Japan’s interwar vision of a future naval battle. Combining traditional battleship tactics with new warfare elements such as airships, aircraft squadrons, and submarines. It reflects the Imperial Japanese Navy’s evolving doctrine following the Washington Naval Treaty (1922). When Japan was rethinking its maritime strategy under fleet tonnage restrictions. Above the sea, airships and observation balloons are seen monitoring the battle. Submarines advance beneath the waves, symbolizing the growing importance of underwater warfare. An accompanying explanatory sheet provides detailed notes on fleet formations, unit names, and battle stages. A vivid glimpse into the Navy’s educational and tactical thought process at the time. The Yushukai Foundation, based in the Imperial Navy’s Mizukosha facility in Tokyo. Was an officially supported patriotic and educational organization. This poster was produced for public exhibitions and naval education. To inspire citizens and cadets with a modern vision of naval power and technological progress. This 1925 edition predates the Yushukai’s better-known “Battleship Cutaway Diagram” (Taisho 15, 1926). Making it one of the earliest known Japanese visual depictions of an integrated air-sea battle. It vividly captures Japan’s transition from a purely battleship-focused strategy to a combined-arms doctrine. That would later define the Pacific War era. Original 1925 print, not a reproduction. Noticeable wear, tears, stains, and toning due to age (see photos). The main image remains highly legible and visually powerful. Very few surviving examples are known worldwide. 1936 Imperial Japanese Navy Kure Naval Training Corps Photo Album / 4th Class
Original Imperial Japanese Navy photo album documenting the training and graduation of 4th Class Engine Room Sailors (Kikanhei) at the Kure Naval Training Corps (Kure Kaheidan) in January, 1936 (Showa 11). About the Kure Naval Training Corps. Kure Kaheidan was one of Japan’s four major naval recruit training bases, along with Yokosuka, Sasebo, and Maizuru. Located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Kure was the home of the Kure Naval Arsenal, which built the legendary battleships Yamato and Nagato. All new recruits to the Imperial Navy underwent basic training here-covering discipline, drill, seamanship, gunnery, signaling, and engineering-before joining the fleet. About Engine Room Sailors (Kikanhei). Engine room sailors were the technical backbone of the fleet, responsible for maintaining and operating boilers, turbines, and generators-the “heart” of a warship. As 4th Class trainees, they began their service at the lowest rank, learning steam and mechanical systems through practical exercises in the engine room. Scenes of the enlistment ceremony and first day of training. Physical and drill exercises, marksmanship, and engineering instruction. Photos of boiler and machinery training. A visit to the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy (Etajima). Recreation and morale events. Each section is accompanied by original period captions, vividly illustrating the strict yet proud life of Imperial Navy recruits before the Pacific War. The front cover board is torn, and some pages with text show creases or tears. Photographs remain clear and well-preserved overall. Considering its age (nearly 90 years old), the condition is good for display or research. A highly valuable prewar Japanese Navy artifact, documenting the training of the men who powered the fleet from below decks. An authentic “engine room view” of the Imperial Navy before the Pacific War. Own a Piece of History. International Buyers – Please Note. Thank you for your understanding.

Imperial Japanese Navy Technical Training School Graduation Album Kure Naval
This is an original pre-WWII Imperial Japanese Navy graduation photo album. The album commemorates the 19th class of the Naval Technical Training School (Kaigun Gishu Yoseijo) and is marked “Koki 2600″, corresponding to 1940, a significant year when Japan celebrated the 2600th anniversary of the Imperial era. The Naval Technical Training School was an important institution responsible for training technical specialists for the Imperial Japanese Navy, including personnel involved in machinery, aviation maintenance, and other engineering fields necessary for modern naval warfare. The album contains numerous photographs documenting the training environment and daily life of the students, including. Group portraits of the cadets. Photographs of instructors and officers. Aircraft and aircraft engines. Training facilities and buildings. Sports and extracurricular activities such as baseball. Several pages also include portraits of senior officers associated with the naval command structure, including personnel connected to the Kure Naval Base, one of the most important naval bases of Imperial Japan. Graduation albums from Japanese naval training institutions rarely appear on the market today, and those related to technical training schools and aviation-related education are particularly uncommon. Because of the combination of naval education, aviation technology imagery, and the historical context of the 1940 Imperial anniversary year, this album represents an interesting historical artifact from the final decade of the Imperial Japanese Navy before the Pacific War. A desirable item for collectors of. Imperial Japanese Navy history. Japanese naval academies and training schools. Pre-war Japanese military memorabilia. The album shows expected age and wear consistent with a historical item of this period. International Buyers – Please Note. Thank you for your understanding.

Pre-WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Sasebo Naval Training Corps Sailor Photo Album
This is an original pre-WWII Imperial Japanese Navy photo album documenting sailor training at the Sasebo Naval Barracks, one of the most important naval training facilities in Japan. The album was created as a graduation / completion commemorative album for sailors who entered service in June 1934 (Showa 9) and completed their training in the 6th Sailor Training Squad. Sasebo Naval Barracks was responsible for training new sailors before they were assigned to warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Many naval personnel who later served during the Pacific War began their careers in institutions like this. The album contains a wide range of fascinating historical photographs, including. Sailor group portraits. Naval instructors and officers. Bayonet and rifle training drills. Formation exercises and parade grounds. Life inside the naval training facility. Photographs of Sasebo harbor and naval vessels. One particularly interesting page includes a portrait of Admiral Mitsumasa Yonai, who later served as Minister of the Navy and Prime Minister of Japan. At the end of the album there is also a roster listing the names of the sailors, providing valuable historical documentation of the individuals who trained in this unit. Some roster details have been partially obscured in the listing images to protect personal information. Albums like this rarely survive with their original photographs and roster intact, making this a valuable primary historical document related to the Imperial Japanese Navy. 19 × 27 × 2.5 cm. Total pages: 57 pages. A highly collectible piece for collectors of Imperial Japanese Navy memorabilia and WWII military history. Overall good condition for its age. There are minor signs of age such as wear, stains, and small scratches consistent with a historical item. Please see photos for details. International Buyers – Please Note.
