A rare original large-format poster titled “Gendai Kaisen Gainen-zu” (Modern Naval Battle Concept Chart). Issued by the Yushukai Foundation on June 15, Taisho 14 (1925). 205 × 77 cm (80 × 30 in). This highly detailed lithograph illustrates Japan’s interwar vision of a future naval battle. Combining traditional battleship tactics with new warfare elements such as airships, aircraft squadrons, and submarines. It reflects the Imperial Japanese Navy’s evolving doctrine following the Washington Naval Treaty (1922). When Japan was rethinking its maritime strategy under fleet tonnage restrictions. Above the sea, airships and observation balloons are seen monitoring the battle. Submarines advance beneath the waves, symbolizing the growing importance of underwater warfare. An accompanying explanatory sheet provides detailed notes on fleet formations, unit names, and battle stages. A vivid glimpse into the Navy’s educational and tactical thought process at the time. The Yushukai Foundation, based in the Imperial Navy’s Mizukosha facility in Tokyo. Was an officially supported patriotic and educational organization. This poster was produced for public exhibitions and naval education. To inspire citizens and cadets with a modern vision of naval power and technological progress. This 1925 edition predates the Yushukai’s better-known “Battleship Cutaway Diagram” (Taisho 15, 1926). Making it one of the earliest known Japanese visual depictions of an integrated air-sea battle. It vividly captures Japan’s transition from a purely battleship-focused strategy to a combined-arms doctrine. That would later define the Pacific War era. Original 1925 print, not a reproduction. Noticeable wear, tears, stains, and toning due to age (see photos). The main image remains highly legible and visually powerful. Very few surviving examples are known worldwide. International Buyers – Please Note. Thank you for your understanding.

WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Large Submarine Attack Poster / Wartime Propaganda
Thank you for viewing my listing. This is an original wartime large-format poster issued during the Pacific War, depicting an Imperial Japanese Navy submarine launching a torpedo attack against an enemy fleet. These colorful printed illustrations were used for military education, naval facility displays, and wartime propaganda, and surviving examples are extremely scarce today. Wartime naval posters of this type served as visual tools to communicate battle situations, strengthen morale, and promote the technological strength of the Imperial Navy. The composition-showing the submarine beneath the surface, the torpedo wake, surface fleet under fire, and an inset circle showing the interior view of the submarine’s control room-is typical of early-Showa naval propaganda art. Because such materials were printed in limited quantities and heavily used, intact originals rarely appear on the market. This poster has been stored for decades and shows significant age-related damage. Large tears and missing sections along the edges. Creases, folds, stains, discoloration. Paper deterioration typical of wartime prints. Please inspect all photos carefully. Despite the damage, it remains a valuable historical and display-grade artifact of Imperial Japanese Navy wartime visual culture. Why Collectors Value This Piece. Submarine-related naval artwork is among the most sought-after wartime themes. The large size and bold composition make it ideal for display. Authentic WWII propaganda materials are increasingly hard to find. A dramatic “salvaged from the past” appearance that some collectors prefer. If you collect Imperial Japanese Navy artifacts, wartime printed materials, or submarine history, this is a rare opportunity to own an original piece. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Approximate 7-21days(To USA).
