I have for sale a metal wall plaque that shows a German Army Artillery unit. The plaque is blackened metal, it is 4 13/16 inches in diameter and in a high grade circulated condition. I have no information on when and who made this plaque. Possibly from the 1930’s or early 40’s. On the reverse it reads 1032 TAK GESGLSGH (these last letters may not be correct). It also has the letters HB in a circle on the obverse and that may be the maker.
THE SOLID BRONZE EMBLEM WAS DESIGNED BY SCULPTOR ADOLPH ALEXANDER WEINMAN OF NEW YORK CITY UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE COMMISSION OF FINE ARTS. ONE OF THE ORIGINAL VERY SMALL EYE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE ORIGINAL BRASS CHAIN TO THE SOLID OAK PLAQUE ON THE REVERSE HAS SNAPPED OFF AND COULD EASILY BE REPLACED.
It is 9″ tall, 8 1/4″ wide, and 1/2 thick. It lists areas in France where battles took place. This antique WWI military service plaque is in excellent condition. It has a few minor blemishes but overall it is amazing. There are only a couple on the internet, and unlike the others, this one has all its original hardware and the wood has no cracks. It has its original screws, nails, hanging chain, and identifying plates, along with its original pyramid-shaped pieces on the top right, left, and bottom which holds the plaque in place with the wood. The writing on this amazing militaria piece is raised. The back states, “Presented By 132nd Infantry Welfare Association To (Blank – No Name Listed) June 7, 1919″. The back bottom states, Designed & Manufactured By The Greenduck Co. This is an incredible antique WWI military plaque that is 103 years old. It was put through an XRF machine and tests as follows. Marked överbefälhavaren, Swedish for supreme commander. Symbol for military, navy, and Air Force are seen on the bottom.
