1934 US COAST ARTILLERY ASSOCIATION TROPHY 507th AA Bronze Plaque Award GORHAM
This one was awarded to the 507th Coast Artillery (AA) For Outstanding Performance In The Coast Artillery Corps 1934. The brass portion was made by GORHAM. I don’t know much about the history of this award. The Coast Artillery formed in 1901 and ended in 1950. I was told these awards began around 1932. I’d be willing to bet none were presented after 1941. During certain years, more than one award was given. I believe two were awarded in 1934. This plaque was presented by Colonel Wilson the 7th Corps Chief of Staff and awarded to the 507th. The 507th CO and XO had their name plates added to the bottom of this plaque. The plaque came from the estate of the CO’s family. Thanks to a good friend, he found a news article from the Des Moines Tribune showing Colonel Wilson presenting this EXACT plaque. I could find only one plaque known to exist. It is in a New York museum. It is shown as belonging to the Old Guard of The City of New York and was presented to the 244th Coast Artillery T. You can see the pictures online. The wood portion of my plaque measures 23 1/2 inches tall, 19 1/4 inches wide and 5/8 inches thick. The bronze portion measures 19 3/4 inches tall, 14 1/4 inches wide and 5/16 inch thick. The entire piece weighs just under 16 pounds. I found some information on the 507th: 507th Coast Artillery (AA) Regiment (SM) Constituted in OR 7-29-21 as 507th Arty, CAC, and allotted to the Seventh Corps Area. Des Moines, IA, March 1922. Redesignated 507th CA (AA) 1924. Withdrawn from OR 8-18-33 and allotted to the RA as an inactive unit. Moved to Minneapolis 9-30-40. Redesignated 507th CA (AA) Regt (SM) 5-9-42 and activated (less Btry I) 8-1-42 at Cp. Reorganized 10-10-42 as 507th CA (AA) Regt (Mobile). Moved to North Long Beach, CA, 1-20-43 to establish AA positions. HHB redesignated HHB, 507th AAA Gp; 1st Bn redesignated 220th AAA (Gun) Bn; 2nd Bn redesignated 643rd AAA (AW) Bn; 3rd Bn redesignated 367th AAA (SL) Bn. The newspaper clippings are NOT in my possession. They were sent to me by a friend who found them online. What you see is what you’ll get. Feel Free To Ask Questions.

The rim of the cup is engraved with: Silver Cup – Commemoration of the 1931 Incident – Japanese Residents’ Association in Tianjin. The “Incident” of Showa 6 (1931) refers to the Manchurian Incident, a turning point in world history. 1?? What is it? This is a silver ceremonial sake cup, produced by the Japanese Residents’ Association in Tianjin, China, to commemorate the outbreak of the Manchurian Incident. Comes with its paulownia wood presentation box. A rare artifact reflecting its era. On September 18, 1931, the Mukden (Liutiaohu) Incident triggered the full-scale occupation of Manchuria by the Kwantung Army. At a time when the world was shaken by the Great Depression, Japan sought resources and territorial expansion on the Asian continent. The inscription mentions Tianjin, which at the time was home to a Japanese settlement. Many Japanese nationals lived there, making it a center for commerce and diplomacy. The residents there commissioned this cup to celebrate and remember Japan’s military success. It was created and distributed by the Japanese Residents’ Association of Tianjin, a self-governing body of Japanese expatriates. This organization supported the lives of the Japanese community abroad while aligning with Japan’s national policies. In Japanese culture, the sake cup (sakazuki) has never been just a drinking vessel. Samurai pledging brotherhood and loyalty. Prayers for victory and prosperity. Commemoration of great events and milestones. Thus, this silver cup is not a mere souvenir. It is a symbol of solidarity, representing how the Japanese residents in Tianjin aligned themselves with Japan’s military actions and engraved their role in history. It was most likely financed through contributions from the residents’ association, with production numbers being very limited. Due to wartime destruction and the postwar chaos, very few of these survive today. Items directly tied to the Manchurian Incident are especially valuable as historical artifacts. This silver commemorative cup was made by Japanese expatriates in Tianjin to mark the beginning of the Manchurian Incident in 1931. It embodies early Showa-era international relations, the presence of Japanese overseas communities, and the cultural symbolism of the sake cup in Japan. In other words, it is a piece of history you can hold in your hands. A valuable addition to historical collections. A primary source for research on the Manchurian Incident or early Showa foreign policy. A cultural symbol of the Japanese relationship with the sake cup. Approximate 7-21days(To USA).

WWII Imperial Japanese Pilot Cap & Flight Logbook Set with Air Association Badge
This is an extremely rare prewar aviation set from the Imperial Japanese Army, consisting of a pilot’s service cap and personal flight logbook , dated 1933 (Showa 8). The set includes key elements of early Japanese military aviation history-when flight was still a frontier, and pilots were national symbols of progress and sacrifice. This soft visor cap features an orange wool band, indicating affiliation with the Imperial Flying Association (Teikoku Hiko Kyokai /)-a semi-governmental organization founded in 1910 to promote aviation across Japan. The front bears the extremely rare aviation badge with a stylized propeller over paulownia leaves, used for training pilots and youth aviation programs. Caps like this were issued to cadets or reserve aviators undergoing training in cooperation with the military. The included logbook records flights on the Type 88 Reconnaissance Aircraft, known as the “Atsurio-shiki Ni-Hachi-gata” (?????). This aircraft, produced by Kawasaki, was a biplane used by the Japanese Army during the early 1930s, especially during the Manchurian Incident. The entries show active training flights, totaling 18 sorties and 2 hours 20 minutes of airtime. This set captures a specific moment in time: the early militarization of Japanese aviation, the rise of pilot culture, and the involvement of the Empire’s civilian air associations in preparing young men for war. It is not only a collectible-it’s a document of ambition, propaganda, and personal journey. Highly recommended for collectors of Imperial Japanese aviation and WWII ephemera. Own a Piece of History. Approximate 7-21days(To USA).
