Very rare, complete 1938 item! This particular example was evidently sent to Finland for use by either thier army or distributed for civilian use- that part of its history is unfortunately lost. Doesn’t appear to ever have been used, and is complete with carrying cannister, mask with screw- on filter, and original insert. There are a couple small dents to cannister, and minor wear to original finish of pieces, but all is sound and overall very good. Please see pics for further description and condition.

Broken USMC Sterling Silver Thermometer Antique Souvenir Vtg. The paper backing has heavy staining, appears to be water damage. The thermometer tube is broken on one end (appears to have happened long ago). Measures 3 in diameter. Front frame is marked Sterling and has a Shakespeare quote on the front bottom. The interior paper backing shows some kind of large base or group of buildings and has USMC on the bottom (the image is half-toned offset so not an actual photo but something that would have been printed on a press). The back or body of the thermometer appears to be something like a tin alloy. You can see how the front sterling frame is crimped or folded around the rim of the backing body. Front window is glass. — See photos for condition details. — I don’t have a way to arrange for a local pick-up of this item, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

Model 1850 Army Officer’s Saber, personally inscribed to Capt. Rafter, 71st Infantry, New York National Guard. This regulation pattern sword was the official sidearm of U. Army and National Guard officers, carried for parades, drills, and formal occasions. Blade length: 30 7/8. Overall length (in scabbard): 37 1/2. Features: finely etched blade, eagle-head pommel with red glass eyes, original wire-wrapped grip, nickel guard with open floral and U. Design, and nickel-plated steel scabbard. The red glass eyes set in the eagle’s head pommel are an especially striking detail, giving the piece extra presence and making it stand out compared to standard issue examples. This saber was presented to Capt. Rafter, who served with the 71st Infantry Regiment, N. Y. N. G. A historic New York regiment with service dating back to the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War I. By the late 1920s, when Rafter is documented as a captain, the regiment numbered over 1,100 men and was one of the most prominent units in the New York Guard. Condition is consistent with age – blade etching remains visible, hilt and grip intact, scabbard shows expected wear. Overall, a wonderful display piece with both military and presentation significance. Perfect for collectors of militaria, edged weapons, or New York National Guard history.
