Rare Barnsby British Cavalry Saddle – Circa 1940s-50s Offered here is an authentic Barnsby cavalry saddle (stamped “BC”), produced by J. Barnsby & Sons of Walsall & London, official suppliers to the British armed forces. This saddle is military issue, not a civilian variant, and retains its original tree stamps (“Spring Tree” / “Rigid Tree”), military marks, and 18 seat. Barnsby & Sons (by appointment to HM the Queen). Era: WWII / immediate post-war period (1940s-50s). Seat Size: 18″. Stamps: “BC (Barnsby Cavalry), dual tree markings. Condition: Excellent antique condition; leather supple and intact, original fittings present. Minor patina consistent with age. Provenance: Obtained in the Midwest from a private collection. These saddles are highly sought after by military collectors, reenactors, museums, and equestrians due to their rarity and historical significance. Very few intact cavalry models survive in this condition.

The Globe-and-Anchor Cap Device is worn on the cap of the Marine Corps dress uniform. The globe on the U. Marine emblem signifies continuing historical service in any part of the world. The eagle represents the United States. The anchor, which dates back to the founding of the Corps in 1775, acknowledges the naval tradition of the Marines and their continual service under the command of the Department of the Navy. Offered here is an extremely rare example of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) OD wool jacket also referenced on some books as the wool version of the Type A-1 Flight Jacket. This model was developed by the Quartermasters Corps during the 30’s. The design was actually inspired on the A-1 flight jacket, but in this case unlined olive drab wool replaced the leather shell panels. Windproof knit cuffs followed the same style of the A-1, but the choker collar was replaced by a knit shawl collar closer to the civilian cossack style. Beveled pocket flaps echoed the pocket flaps on the coat. Finally, the waistband was changed to an elasticized band in a muticolored wool knit secured with two buttons to ensure a wind-tight fit. The condition of this example is amazing considering is over 80 years old. All parts are genuine to the jacket. All buttons are present and firm. Tags shows to be a size 42. Right shoulder bears a PFC rank chevron. There is some confusion among collectors due to the resemblance to the A-1 flight jacket, but there is no evidence that this jacket was designed for the Army Air Forces or was ever original issued to pilots. However, the fact is that at least some surplus CCC work jackets were reissued to Army Air Forces ground crews during World War II. Let me know if you have any questions. All sales are final.
