Barnsby Cavalry Saddle British Military Issue 30’s- 18 Seat- Original Stamps
Rare Barnsby British Cavalry Saddle – Circa 1940s-50s Offered here is an authentic Barnsby cavalry saddle (stamped “BC”), produced by J. Barnsby & Sons of Walsall & London, official suppliers to the British armed forces. This saddle is military issue, not a civilian variant, and retains its original tree stamps (“Spring Tree” / “Rigid Tree”), military marks, and 18 seat. Barnsby & Sons (by appointment to HM the Queen). Era: WWII / immediate post-war period (1940s-50s). Seat Size: 18″. Stamps: “BC (Barnsby Cavalry), dual tree markings. Condition: Excellent antique condition; leather supple and intact, original fittings present. Minor patina consistent with age. Provenance: Obtained in the Midwest from a private collection. These saddles are highly sought after by military collectors, reenactors, museums, and equestrians due to their rarity and historical significance. Very few intact cavalry models survive in this condition.

Original model 1926 Officer training saddle in overall very good condition. All sewn seams are solid. All 6 billets are in place. Nice original saddle that shows actual use but is not all beat up. All 4 cantle bag D rings in place. Saddle needs stirrup leathers, the very common 1912 stirrups and a cinch to complete. Harness SADDLE and Breast COLLAR M1927 Machine Gun Cart and 37mm Gun. Infantry attached weapons, not cavalry used. Saddle is complete as seen in pictures. Was dismantled for cleaning and restoration. Cart shafts pass thru loops suspended from saddle. Top connecting arch is steel with a bronze finish. Made of heavy harness leather. COLLAR is complete with Neck STRAP. Collar has some broken threads which show when collar is laid flat, in the in-use position does no show. See pictures for details and condition. Harness SADDLE and Breast COLLAR M1927 Machine Gun Cart and 37mm Gun. Infantry attached weapons, not cavalry used. Saddle is complete as seen in pictures. Pins holding arch to pad have been replaced by longer rods with eyes, are easier to remove and replace than originals. Cart shafts pass thru loops suspended from saddle. Top connecting arch is steel with a bronze finish. One pad has seam damage along bottom, see pictures. Made of heavy harness leather, one strap is marked US with faded out JQMD and year date. COLLAR is complete with Neck STRAP. Collar has some broken threads which show when collar is laid flat, in the in-use position does no show. Collar has an added leather tab with a large brass letter D (company). No other markings on collar. This may have been issued to D Company 11th Regiment of Infantry as some other pieces of MG harness in the same lot are marked to 11th Infantry. See pictures for details and condition. Machine Gun Cart and 37 mm Howitzer HARNESS M1927. These weapons accompanied Infantry, not Cavalry. Breast Collar has an ID disc attached which identifies the mule using this collar as TOM. All parts are complete and in sound condition, leather supple, scattered insect tracking, several US JQMD stampings, no weak areas. No repairs Shows very little use and no wear. Saddle cover has unit stampings. Iron chains are brown patinaed. All parts are correct for M1927 MG Harness. See pictures for condition and details. U. S. Army Model 1936 Phillips Officer Cavalry Saddle
Up for sale is a US Army Model 1936 Phillips Officer Cavalry Saddle. Condition is Very nice used condition. This saddle has been well taken care of. Leather soft and supple. Tree is good – no flex. Measurements:Seat 18, Gullet width 7. Channel width 3 in center 2 1/2 under cantle. C ouple things to mention given its age. First small flaw in the leather in the channel under the cantle (see pic). Does not affect anything but its there. Second would be a small split in the welting on the front of the saddle on the off side. Again, cosmetic and does not affect anything. T he saddle includes irons and leathers, but stirrups are vintage sterling English ones not the offset RIA issued ones. Leathers could original but they have no arsenal markings. It is missing the QM Depit brass plate but its data still partially embossed on the leather. Overall a very nice saddle. Very comfortable and was designed to ridden in a forward seat position. Seat is original hog hide with the rest original genuine leather. Billets very good but no girth provided. Overall a very nice collectible to ride and enjoy or for display.
