This bayonet was manufactured by Springfield Armory and is dated 1919. This bayonet is in great condition considering its age. The blade retains most of its finish. There are some runner marks from scabbard wear. The blade does not appear to have been sharpened after it left the factory. There are a few nicks in the edge of the blade. The blade is stamped S A over the flaming bomb and is dated 1919. The opposite side of the blade is stamped US and has the serial number 1061787. The guard is tight and it has no play. The guard is a little bent (see pics, bent on thumb release side). The guard, hilt and pommel all have a nice even patina. There is some light pitting and minor surface rust (nothing serious). The release mechanism is working properly but is a little stiff. The walnut handles are in great shape with no damage that I can see. One panel is stamped 956. This may be a rack number (not sure). The bayonet has an overall length of approximately 20 & inches. There is no scabbard with this bayonet. This bayonet would make a great addition to any collection. Offered here is an original medal and insignia group (framed many years ago) belonging to one man who served in the US Navy from the early 1920’s through WWII. He left the service with the rank of Warrant Officer Gunner. Included in group, framed many years ago, are one of his dog tags, WWI Victory Medal, numbered Second Nicaragua Campaign Medal, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, American Defense, Expeditions, WWII Victory Medal with Fleet Bar and service ribbons for these medals complete with battle stars. Also included are two pair of epaulets, WWII era two-piece, silver plated (plastic) cap device (maker marked) and four sleeve devices for a Warrant Officer Gunner. The WWI victory medal ribbon has shredded and that medal is loose. Also the good conduct medal ribbon is gone as well. All other medal ribbons are intact. Cursory research indicates that this vet died in 1961. He was from Farmingdale, NY. Sent in the original 13″ x 21″ wood frame just as you see in the photos. This is a good example of a War Time Era Japanese Sword carried by an Army Officer during World War II. It is mounted with an ancestral, streamline KOTO blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 25 1/2 inches in length. The blade has survived in nice condition with a lovely straight temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The blade has some scratches and surface blemishes as well as has a small parallel opening crack on the cutting edge near the tip. The tang wears two holes and shows to have been cleaned with fitted during the war. All the fittings remain very nice and clean in their condition. The leather combat covered wooden scabbard wears two carrying rings and remains in very nice serviceable condition. Overall, the Sword measures 37 1/2 inches in length.
