World War I Collection. This historical collection of World War I original period items belonged to Private George M. Tippett of the 32nd (Red Arrow)Division, otherwise known as the forgotten division of the World War. He was inducted into the service September 19, 1917. Private Tippet was wounded August 29, 1918 at the Battle of Soissons on the Rheinos-Champagne front in France. He was serving as liason runner with Company G, 125 infantry, 32nd Red Arrow division when he came under machine gun fire and suffered wounds to both legs. He was later awarded a Purple Heart for his bravery. Included in this group lot are his medals, awards, papers and other miscellaneous items shown that are listed below. Service Record in original frame 18 1/2″ X 15 1/2″. Purple Heart with original box & bar. Medal w/bars of service. Military photo in dome glass military frame 25 1/2″ X 19″. Award honoring his service signed by Richard Nixon. Award print signed by Woodrow Wilson 22″ X 18 3/4″. All items show some wear as you can see in the photos. This is a good example of a Military Gurka Kukri Knife. It is mounted with a well made curved, single-edged blade that measures 12 3/4 inches in length which although shows some light staining, does remain in very good condition and is dated “M43″. It wears wooden grips that remain healthy and tight. The heavy leather scabbard remains healthy as well and continues to wear two smaller knives. Overall measuring 18 3/8 inches in length. This is an example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a hand-forged blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 1/2 inches in length. The blade remains healthy with some minor surface blemishes and a few tiny nicks to the cutting edge, nevertheless is in nice condition and boasts a lovely large temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The well signed tang wears characters which translate to “BIZEN NAGAMITSU “. Although tight, the hilt is darkly stained however, all the fittings remain nice and the scabbard had some scuffing to the finish but does remain in good serviceable condition and has no dings.
