This extremely rare photo album documents a pivotal moment in modern Japanese history-the final provincial tour of Crown Prince Hirohito (later Emperor Showa) before his ascension to the Chrysanthemum Throne. Conducted in May 1926, just months before Emperor Taisho’s death, this tour to Okayama Prefecture symbolized not only continuity of imperial tradition, but also the coming of a new era. At only 25 years old, Hirohito was already serving as regent due to his father’s failing health. His travels across Japan were carefully observed by both the Japanese public and political elites, as they represented the emergence of a new national figurehead during a time of rapid modernization and political uncertainty. An antique letter plus envelope. The March 19, 1919 letter was written by AEF soldier Harry Nadel to his parents. Vintage wear and aging include creasing, bending, & fading; no other enclosures. 3 pages, with writing on 5 1/2 sides. Written on Knights of Columbus, Army of Occupation letterhead and envelope. Harry is stationed in Loef, Germany and this is his 73rd letter home. This rare letter provides great detail about General Perishing’s (Commander in Chief of AEF) visit to review the troops (“about 15,000 of us”), including passing by Harry. Envelope has cancellation and passed censor stamp/signature. Harry’s civilian job was at Paramount Pictures. Harry’s brother Joe (Joseph) was an accomplished film producer and director. Joe’s son, Arthur Nadel was also well-known in the film industry. Both are listed on IMDB.

British hallmarks for Birmingham, 1921. The reverse of the medal is centering on the badge for the Prince of Wales within the Garter and surrounded by the collar and suspending the Most Exalted Order of The Star of India. It depicts the profile of Queen Victoria surmounted by a five pointed star, with the motto of the Order. Heaven’s Light Our Guide. This Order was founded by Queen Victoria on 23rd February 1861 and was awarded to Indian Princes and British Subjects for distinguished and loyal service to the Indian Empire. The Order is no longer awarded and there have been no appointments since 1947. Only 84 medals of this type were awarded to Indian officers and police to mark the Royal Tour of India.
