Offered for sale is a rare commemorative silver token (875 silver hallmark), awarded in 1929 for achievement on the labour front. The token commemorates the 1st Union competition held at the Kharkiv Locomotive Plant (???) and was presented to comrade P. Peltzman by the Kharkiv District Executive Committee. The front features a detailed Sulzer locomotive image; the reverse carries the engraved dedication and official hallmarks. Origin: USSR, Kharkiv. Date: 9 October 1929 (9/X/1929). Material: Sterling silver. Weight: 6.80 grams. Condition: Excellent antique condition with natural patina. The chain is snapped. «1-???????????????? . VERY EARLY PRE-WW2 GERMAN REICH LABOUR SERVICE MEMBER POSES IN RAD UNIFORM WITH HIS. RAD HAT, RAD BELT BUCKLE, RAD TABS. ID’d ON THE REVERSE. RAD was a major paramilitary organization established in National Socialist Germany as an agency to help mitigate the effects of unemployment on the German economy, militarize the workforce and indoctrinate it with their ideology. It was the official state labour service, divided into separate sections for men and women. On 11 July 1934, the NSAD was renamed. Or RAD until the end of World War 2. From June 1935 onward, men aged between 18 and 25 may have served six months before their military service. During World War 2, compulsory service also included young women, and the RAD developed to an auxiliary formation which provided support for the Wehrmacht armed forces.
