This is a good example of a Soviet Russian Cossack Shashka Sword P 1927. It is mounted with a slightly curved blade that measures 31 3/4 inches in length which remains in good condition with minor surface staining and continues to wear very nice markings as well as is dated “37”. The hilt has a grooved wooden grip that remains healthy and tight and wears beautiful brass fittings with a pommel which is nicely stamped with the Soviet emblem. The wooden scabbard is brass fitted and although has a little scuffing, does remain in nice serviceable condition and continues to wear its Mosin-Nagant bayonet. Russian M36 Spanish Civil War Helmet of the Republic. This is a beauty!!! One of my all time favorite helmet designs, the M36. These helmet were new to the Soviet arsenal and were first battle tested here in Spain. Very few Spanish troops were issued these. The majority of them were used by Russian forces and the International Brigades. I’ve never seen pictures of any of these on the heads of the Nationalists. The capturing and re-issuing of each others equipment was common place. The distinct shape of these and their direct tie to Russia probably had Franco’s men feeling that they’d rather do without a helmet than wear a captured commie lid. To that point, I’ve never seen an M36 “Francanized” post war helmet with the front bracket for the Franco Spanish eagle. Russian paint and Russian liner. We know that she’s been to Spain because she’s got a Spanish Chinstrap. This one is coming right out of my personal collection. I love this one but how many can a guy have? Kulinsky “Russian Edge Weapons” Vol 1 Pg. 152 but the absolute majority of these swords were made before revolution and have Imperial marks (often grinded). It is indeed extremely rare to find Soviet made M1881. The sword is solid, no loose parts, no blade/guard/grip movement, the blade has some rust, cracks free grip, the wooden scabbard scratches, damaged leather over the wood but nothing major, very solid overall.
