Parliamentary elections were held in Germany (including recently annexed Austria) on 10 April 1938. They were the final elections to the Reichstag during German Fascist political rule and took the form of a single-question referendum asking whether voters approved of a single list of Fascist and pro – Fascist guest candidates for the 814-member Reichstag as well as the recent annexation of Austria. Turnout in the election was officially 99.6% with 99.1% voting’yes’ in Germany and Austria. That old Navy scrapbook of mine, / It’s crammed full of pictures and happenings of old, / Of the days that are now left behind. An extensive sailor’s archive (a huge scrapbook, hundreds of photographs, and five oral history cassette tapes) documenting his pre-WWII service on the flagship of the U. Compiled by Thomas Wallace Hood while on the. This archive consists of. An 8″ x 14″ 300-page scrapbook, filled with articles, clippings, photographs, cartoons, newsletters, assorted ephemera. Hood used 86 pages in the rear of the album to keep a daily journal. The archive also includes more than 100 loose photographs and Another 20 loose documents, letters, certificates, and membership cards, as well as Five 90-minute cassette tapes in which Hood provides an oral history of his naval service. The paper items in the archive are in nice shape. Although the tapes look okay, I cannot verify whether they play or not as I haven’t had a cassette player in years. In addition to commentary about daily shipboard life and duty as machinist’s mate, it includes many other lively observations events and happenings during his time on-board. 1936 Cigarette Card Album. This is a complete set of 270 cigarette cards neatly arranged in their album that was published in 1936 by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst. The paperwork further insinuates the clock is from 1938 (it’s also possible this was just a point of reference – I cannot say for certain). The clock measures approximately 19″ in diameter and is approximately 7″ deep. I have NOT attempted to wind the clock, so I do NOT know if it runs or not. It may or may not need service. The weight & key are included. Nor have I attempted to remove the front of the clock to observe the movement, though it is a fusee movement as visible from the side door (pictured). There is a crack on one corner of the case (pictured). One of the four “pegs” that holds the front on is missing. Further, as you can observe in the photos, the paint has faded slightly on the face. Pre-WW2 Leather Jacket Back Patch 27th Aero Pursuit Squadron AAC 1930s 15 in diameter at the widest. This a killer-looking NEWLY-made patch! Heres an exquisite, one-of-kind multi-layered-leather patch for an A2 Flight Jacket (or an earlier Army Air Corps leather jacket). I had this made for me based upon an actual hand-painted image on a canvas fuselage section removed from a 27th Aero Squadrons aircraft (depicted in pictures 10, 11, and 12). Still active as the 27th Fighter Squadron, this unit is the oldest active fighter squadron in the United States Air Force, with over 95 years of service to the nation! The 27th Fighter Squadron was organized as the 21st (later 27th) Aero Squadron on 15 June 1917 at Kelly Field, Texas. The squadron deployed to France and fought on the Western Front during World War I as a pursuit squadron. It took part in the Champagne-Marne defensive; Aisne-Marne offensive; St. Mihiel offensive, and Meuse-Argonne offensive. Lieutenant Frank Luke, Jr. Known as the “Arizona Balloon Buster, ” for his daring feats against the HEAVILY defended German observation balloons, was the squadron’s most colorful ace. His 18 victories cost him his life, and he was awarded the Medal of Honor. Aircraft flown by the 27th during World War I include the Nieuport 28, Spad XIII and Sopwith F-1 Camel. In the period between the world wars, the 27th Pursuit Squadron, re-designated 25 January 1923, was stationed primarily at Selfridge Field, Michigan, with the 1st Fighter Group. 27th Pursuit Squadron pilots participated in air races. Donald Stace of the 27th AS won the first Mitchell Trophy Race. Under extreme and austere conditions in the 1920s they tested the effects of cold weather on their aircraft. At times it was so cold, the engines of their P-1 Hawk aircraft would not start until steam was forced into the engines to thaw them. While they were stationed at Selfridge Field, Mich. Pilots from the 27th AS put on aerial demonstrations all over the country throughout the 1920s. One of those was at Langley Field in March, 1925. A large silhouette of a battleship on the grass landing strip served as a target, which was successfully strafed and bombed for several duly impressed congressmen. During World War II the unit served in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO) as part of Twelfth Air Force as a P-38 Lightning fighter squadron, participating in the North African and Italian campaigns. During the Cold War it was both an Air Defense Command fighter-interceptor squadron as later as part of Tactical Air Command. It was the first USAF operational squadron equipped with the F-15A Eagle in January 1976.
