The poster features an Arthur Beaumont painting of the USS Houston cruiser titled. And highlights the opportunities to travel and see the world that came with enlistment the US Navy. The USS Houston was highly decorated Northampton-class cruiser in the US Navy that had served as flagship of the Asiatic Fleet and later the United States Fleet. She was sunk by the Japanese navy during WWII at the Battle of Sundra Straight on March 1, 1942. This is a rare poster with the lower margin indicating a 1935 publication date. Far fewer posters were produced during the interwar period than during WWI or WWII and tended to emphasize travel and other benefits of enlistment rather than wartime themes. Up for sale is a Circa 1930’s Crouse-Hinds United States Navy Spotlight Made in New York! It has a metal body and a Pyrex convex glass lens. It measures 16″ long and 15″ in diameter at the lens. The piece is very good overall condition with signs of wear consistent with its age and use (scattered surface wear to metal body and glass lens). Please message me if you have any questions. 1932 Valiant Spirit Of Our Navy Makes Better Americans Enlist Poster J W Burbank. Date: 1944 Artist: Falter, John Size (in): 41″ x 28″ Size (cm): 104.1 x 71.1 Condition: A- Linen backed: No This rare vintage original poster was issued by the US Navy in 1932 for recruiting purposes. The poster features artwork showing a US Navy sailor in the War of 1812 along with an image of modern naval personnel with a title that reads. The Valiant Spirit Of Our Navy Makes Better Americans – Enlist and Be One. The artwork shows the dates 1812 and 1932 and the lower margin is printed “5-6-32″ so thus the date. Also printed in the lower margin is text that reads Compliments to H. Burbank with this being a reference to acclaimed Swedish-American painter Harry Reuterdahl who had designed several WWI era posters for the US Navy. This is a rare poster as far fewer posters were produced during the interwar period than during WWI or WWII. Overall condition is very good. Original 1926 Dedication Of Soldier Field Army Navy Football Game Ticket. It measures 2.75 by 5.75 inches, has some glue residue on the back from being in a binder collection, but still in great condition.
US NAVY SERVICEMAN’S TRAPUNTO BANNER commemorating CHINA and JAPAN VOYAGE, 1927. US Navy serviceman’s silk trapunto banner commemorating a voyage to China and Japan, November 1927. Commemorates the voyage of Joe Dillon on the S. President Jefferson to China and Japan and the Philippines: Seattle, San Francisco, Honolulu, Manila, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Victoria, Yokohama, Kobe and Shimidzu. 17×20 inches not including the protective paper edging (shown in second photo). Beautifully and intricately embroidered with eagle, flags and depiction of the S. These banners were very popular and sought after by servicemen as souvenirs at the time; this one obviously kept as a cherished memento. Most were produced in Japan, this one by m. Hasegawa and marked Embroiderer Coat of Arms and Portrait Painting on Silk, Yokohama, Japan. Excellent condition, protected by the paper backing and edge-covering. Paper backing is very good on the sides and fair on the back.
Low numbered, boxed Yangtze Service Medal. Numbered 1163 on the rim, and on the box. The box is slightly damaged. Named US Navy Good Conduct Medal. Dated 24 December 1928. The sailors name, and USS Cincinnati are engraved on the obverse. 1933, and 1937 bars are pinned on the drape. The suspension ring is removed. You will receive the item in the photos.
