This is a very nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Dress Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade that measures 25 3/4 inches in length. The plated blade although remains in good condition, has flaking to the plating on either side. The D-guard is beautifully detailed with pretty cherry blossoms “sakura” motifs that adorn the pommel, the backstrap and the guard face and frame a lovely white samé covered hilt with the original twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The wonderful shagreen covered scabbard has survived beautifully and in very healthy condition. All the lovely fittings continue to wear much of their original gold wash, and although the base fitting has a small ding on one side, they do remain very nice in their condition as well. The M26 helmet was made at the “National Arsenal of Artillery” in Trubia, this helmet is commonly referred to as a “Con ala” which translates to “With Wings” due to its flared sides, it was distributed in 1930 and was a common sight on the battlefields during the Spanish Civil War. These along with other helmets in service with the Spanish Army were all withdrawn in 1943 and refurbished, they had a coating of a light green paint and frontal brackets to hold the new “Franco” badges, most of the older M26’s etc had the liners replaced too. However this one still retains the original 3-piece liner in good condition. You have probably seen that I’ve had this album listed for awhile now. There has been a lot of interest but my price. Has prevented the sale. I’m probably just too attached. Absolutely Beautiful Photograph Album. This album was created by a midshipman named C. He served on the USS New York – 2nd Div. San Pedro, California. He states on the inside cover that this album was made by him and for him. Included are the album plus. Approximately 276 – Smaller images. I made collages so I could share most of the 280+ photographs in the album. I’m just guessing, but probably 45 or so are not shown. The album is complete as to how I originally obtained it. I have not removed anything. I’ve enjoyed owning this album for the past 20-25 years. I adore my photo collection and. This is one of my very favorite albums. I’m in the process of downsizing to a smaller home so. Unfortunately I have to let much of my collection go. I will be listing many more albums in the near. Rare China Marine Mess Sergeant’s Tunic – ID’d, circa 1930’s. This tunic is from a grouping of Thomas’s other uniforms, in another collection that is currently not for sale. This is how we have been able to identify this item to Sgt. Thomas, as this item is not individually marked itself. Overall in nice condition, with no areas of mothing and discoloration. One the back of the right sleeve, along the seam, there is a black substance that has stained approx. A 7 long section along the sleeve. There is wear throughout due to use by Thomas. On both sleeves the Mess Sergeant Rank is machine sewn on. Very nice Eagle, Globe and Anchors on both lapels with wear, toning and patina on both. Coat, shoulder and pocket buttons are have similar wear and scuffing with tight stitching on all. The only marking inside the tunic is the number “590” in the center near the collar.
