This is a beautiful dish or ashtray that appears as if it could have been the bottom of a shell and was worked into this display. It’s heavy, I believe it’s brass, maybe bronze. There are light scratches and edge nicks on the piece. USS Cushing (DD-376) was launched 31 December 1935 by Puget Sound Navy Yard; sponsored by Miss K. Cushing, daughter of Command Cushing; commissioned 28 August 1936, Commander E. Short in command; and reported to the Pacific Fleet. Except for brief periods of training at Pearl Harbor and one cruise to the Caribbean, USS Cushing (DD-376) cruised the west coast from San Diego for exercises and training. Undergoing overhaul at Mare Island Navy Yard when the Japanese struck Pearl Harbor, USS Cushing (DD-376) sailed from San Francisco 17 December 1941 for convoy escort duty between the west coast and Pearl Harbor until 13 January 1942. The second USS Perkins (DD-377) was a Mahan-class destroyer launched in 1935, served in World War II and sank following a collision with Australian troopship Duntroon in 1942.
25 1/4″ x 11 1/2″ photo showing U. Cassin DD-43 in its original frame. Cassin was a member the U. Destroyer anti-submarine patrol based out of Queensland, Ireland during WWI. On October 15, 1917, Cassin was struck in the stern by a torpedo delivered by German submarine, U-61, causing severe damage.

All original period photograph that measures approx. 29 1/4 by 9 3/4 inches, typically referred to as a yard long image. A few small bumps and little tears around the edges, small pinholes in the corners, small piece of the top right corner missing. Photograph is stamped on the back Photo by National Photo Service, 737 East Houston St. San Antonio, Texas, there is similar info on the front of the image on the bottom right corner also numbering this image at there studio as 1405-A. This is undoubtedly the rarest military photo I have ever owned. Ultra Rare Yard Long Official Photo WW1 USS Georgia w Crew US Navy by JC Crosby. He moved to Norfolk, Va. In the later part of 1920. A list of known Navy photographs he produced is listed in Naval Historical Center Homepage online Library. This one is not listed and may be the only one known to exist. The frame measures approximately 44-1/4 x 10-1/4. The previous owner had it professionally framed with a new dust cover installed. I cut back about a quarter of the dust cover to view a portion of the print itself. I guarantee it to be old and original. There are a few condition issues that are common to photographs of this age. Please scan with the zoom tool to examine it for yourself. The backer board is white so the upper left corner and the few small white spots are holes in the photo.
