Dutch M38 helmet, a type of military helmet used by the Royal Netherlands Army and the Royal Dutch East Indies Army (KNIL). The helmet’s design is a descendant of the earlier Dutch M34 helmet. This M38 helmet was manufactured by the Milwaukee Saddlery Company (Milsco) in the USA for the KNIL, and these can be identified by the absence of a frontal badge. After the Dutch capitulation in World War II, some of these helmets were captured and reused by German forces. That appears to be the case here. Measures 11.25 front to back. 9.25 widest point. Comes from a WWII veteran who served in France with George Patton’s 3rd army armored division. Great piece of history.

The Mod16B has three oblong holes in the brim and no air ventures in the bowl, the Mod16C and Mod16D had one oblong hole. It was used by the army until the introduction of the M27 steel helmet. When the Dutch Army went short of helmets in the’30’s it was re-introduced. A rare helmet that will take a unique place in a high-end quality helmet collection.
