ARTIFACT: This is a cool and rare circa 1920s or 1930s issue blanket for the German Reichsmarine (Navy). The blanket is in heathered wool and reads Reichsmarine in a red border at both top and bottom. SIZE: Approximately 76 in length and 51 in width. US Navy Good Conduct Medal issued to James R. Ross for service on the submarine USS O-14 in 1920. The medal also has bars for the USS Vestal (dated 1922), USS Idaho (1926) and Radio Stations 12. At the top of the ribbon is WWI Victory Medal bar Submarine (official Fulford type). The medal and all four bars were long ago polished and then shellacked. Ross was born in Penrod, Kentucky in 1891 and had two brief USN enlistments between 1910 and 1912. He then reenlisted in 1916 and served continuously until transferred to the Reserves in 1934, as well as being recalled for active duty during WWII. In addition to the O-14, he also served on the submarines N-7 and R-22. Rosss service file notes that he was issued a Victory Medal with Submarine bar in 1921 however his service file doesnt show any sub service during WWI. He also has service on the aircraft carrier USS Langley in 1931 and on the battleship USS West Virginia from 1932 to 1934. All WWII Service was in the USA. With the badge are over 50 pages of documents that were scanned from Rosss service file at the Military Personnel Records Center in St. All of the documents shown are color copies. 1937 Imperial Japanese Navy Training Photo Album Book RARE Pre-WWII. The pages are divided by thin rice paper that has printed Japanese Text. The pages of the book are full of Japanese Text as well, especially the rear final pages which look to be perhaps a listing to all the crew members! This Vintage Japanese Imperial Navy album is in good condition for its age, showing some mild edge wear to the covers. The binding is original and is holding strong, albeit slightly loose. The interior pages shows light-mild scuffing and coloration from age/display. The rice paper dividers are in good shape, with only 1 missing and some light creasing present in a few pages. The First Nicaraguan Campaign Medal was created to recognize those U. Navy personnel and U. Marines who had participated in amphibious actions in Nicaragua between 29 July and 14 November 1912. The following naval commands, and all embarked U. Marines, were eligible for the First Nicaraguan Campaign Medal. USS California (armored cruiser). USS Cleveland (protected cruiser). USS Colorado (armored cruiser). USS Denver (protected cruiser). USS Maryland (armored cruiser). USS Tacoma (protected cruiser). The medal for the First Nicaraguan Campaign Medal displayed a volcano, rising from a lake, with the words Nicaraguan Campaign and the date 1912 on the edges of the medal. The medal itself was suspended from a red ribbon with two thick blue stripes. On the reverse of each medal was a Navy or Marine Corps crest, depending on the recipient’ s branch of service.
