Very good condition and guaranteed original pre WWII German Navy Model 1923 officer sword. Left side of blade also has the German Navy eagle M property marking. Sword is marked N584 on the reverse guard, which is a Nordsee (Baltic Sea) Fleet inventory number. 30 ½ blade has nice original bright finish with just a little scattered brown freckling. Remaining metal is original gilt showing light wear. Sword features a lion head pommel and an anchor design on the folding guard. Grip has tight wire wrap and no damage. Sword is complete with correct original not. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has brass fittings. Leather shows some normal wear, stitching is nice and tight. Throat is a little loose. Scabbard is complete with braided leather hanger cord and is also marked eagle M and N584 on the throat, matching the sword. This is a rare US Navy grouping for a man who was stationed on the USS NARWHAL at Pearl Harbor on Dec. See pictures 10 and 11. The group consists of his frock coat, evening dress coat, trousers with braid, and his Midshipman tunic. All are in very nice condition with only one button missing from the tunic. The fore and aft hat, epaulettes, and gold belt are in a tin box with his initials painted on top. All are in excellent condition except for the box. It is dented with paint missing and the lock is off but included. The sword is in fine condition with the scabbard showing only very minor flaking. The leather case is in good condition but is missing part of the strap to buckle it closed and some mild mothing to the liner. Scabbard is engraved with his initials and the leather case also has his initials. Interestingly his last name is misspelled on the blade, an “A” is missing. Also included is his 1931 Academy yearbook, silver anniversary yearbook, and thirty first anniversary yearbook. The papers that are included are all copies except his retirement paper. Also included is a second sword belt, a medal and a comb with missing teeth in a leather pouch which also has a rusting file. I think this is the highlight of the whole group. The USS Narwhal is credited with shooting down a Japanese Zero (along with a destroyer) which is the first submarine kill of the war. This group is from the officer who claims he shot it down. This is a rare Pearl Harbor AND submarine related group. I just noticed that in the picture of the yearbooks there is a small book titled The Silver Quiver, it does not go with this group. The crate has been in my attic for over 25 years and is under a large pile of stuff. No sense in digging it out until or if the group sells. The price listed may be lower if you live on the East Coast. It will take me a few days to dig out the crate and pack everything safely so please be patient. Such swords were produced only 130 units. Inscription: “Honor i Ojczyzna”. Sabre is in excellent condition, with the original scabbard. Perfectly preserved gilding (about 80%) on the hilt and scabbard fittings. Also nickel on the blade preserved very well. On the blade inscription: “Honor i Ojczyzna” and signature: G. In Polish museums I know of only two such sabers. One is in the Museum of the Polish Army (Muzeum Wojska Polskiego) in Warsaw. Pre-WWII 1929 US Navy Good Conduct Medal USS Penguin AM33 Pharmacists Mate Named Tabs. Named to Paul E Pirrone who was a Pharmacist Mate USS Penguin Lapwing-class Minesweeper. Served in Haitian Campaign, China WWI, and Interwar period around the world. Direct from his Estate. Both Clasps are named and engraved to! Choice medal more of his medals will be available this week. Arrived in New York in November 1919 and, after a major overhaul, was sent to join the Pacific Fleets Mine Squadron 4, which was based in the eastern Pacific. Continued working as a minesweeper until 1 June 1922, when she was decommissioned and placed in reserve at Pearl Harbor. Was re-commissioned 13 October 1923 and was converted into a gunboat for service with the US Navys Asiatic Fleet. She left Pearl Harbor and headed west to become part of the famous Yangtze Patrol and was based at Shanghai. Although this was supposed to be only a temporary assignment. Remained with the Yangtze Patrol for seven years, protecting American lives and property while battling Chinese pirates and warlords. Sailed to Cavite in the Philippines for a brief period of time before being ordered to go to Guam. With the coming of World War II in the Pacific, Japan invaded China and was making ominous moves towards many of the islands in the region. Was ordered to increase her patrols around Guam and to guard against any Japanese warships that could potentially threaten the island. No one really knew, though, what the small and poorly armed gunboat could do if it encountered units from the enormous Japanese Navy.
