US Navy Officers Model 1852 Sword & Knot Scabbard Engraved & Name Inscribed. Up for sale is a vintage US Navy Officers Sword & scabbard that has an engraved blade and the officers name inscribed into the blade. The blade is stamped Made in USA but I dont see a makers mark – could be engraved in the blade. The blade width is 3/4 and the fish skin type handle is plastic, and the engraving and condition lead me to believe this was a sword from WWI or WWII. The scabbard is marked in a couple of places 84. The blade measures 28 1/2″ long with total length of sword being 34″. If you have any questions please contact me. If you would prefer another carrier please contact me and we can change to your preference. The only exception if if the item is oversized or unique and requires specialized packing then I will charge for the box. These charges are the buyers responsibility. Rare original, first type United States Navy, China Service, campaign medal. Ringtop suspension on the medal (not the later knob type) and early, full wrap brooch. In original cardboard box, with both the ribbon bar device and a pin back ribbon device. The medal measures approximately 1 5/16 in diameter. There is a penny in one photo to show scale (penny not included in sale). The original cardboard box is present. Scuffed at the corners with the red material worn away at all. There are traces of tape at the middle, with the surface red missing on the sides and on the bottom. The medal shows no wear, but has some storage type marks and a lot of tiny black marks (age spots) and uneven tarnish. The separate pin back ribbon device is faded and has light soiling may very well have been used. Same with the separate ribbon bar device which is soiled. This is a hobby not a living, so I try to keep it fun, otherwise why do it. _gsrx_vers_632 GS 6.9.8 (632). Rare Us Navy Pre Ww2 Formal Uniform Group Pearl Harbor Submarines
This is a rare US Navy grouping for a man who was stationed on the USS NARWHAL at Pearl Harbor on Dec. See pictures 10 and 11. The group consists of his frock coat, evening dress coat, trousers with braid, and his Midshipman tunic. All are in very nice condition with only one button missing from the tunic. The fore and aft hat, epaulettes, and gold belt are in a tin box with his initials painted on top. All are in excellent condition except for the box. It is dented with paint missing and the lock is off but included. The sword is in fine condition with the scabbard showing only very minor flaking. The leather case is in good condition but is missing part of the strap to buckle it closed and some mild mothing to the liner. Scabbard is engraved with his initials and the leather case also has his initials. Interestingly his last name is misspelled on the blade, an “A” is missing. Also included is his 1931 Academy yearbook, silver anniversary yearbook, and thirty first anniversary yearbook. The papers that are included are all copies except his retirement paper. Also included is a second sword belt, a medal and a comb with missing teeth in a leather pouch which also has a rusting file. I think this is the highlight of the whole group. The USS Narwhal is credited with shooting down a Japanese Zero (along with a destroyer) which is the first submarine kill of the war. This group is from the officer who claims he shot it down. This is a rare Pearl Harbor AND submarine related group. I just noticed that in the picture of the yearbooks there is a small book titled The Silver Quiver, it does not go with this group. The crate has been in my attic for over 25 years and is under a large pile of stuff. No sense in digging it out until or if the group sells. The price listed may be lower if you live on the East Coast. It will take me a few days to dig out the crate and pack everything safely so please be patient. If you live in the area you can pick it up. The item “RARE US NAVY PRE WW2 FORMAL UNIFORM GROUP PEARL HARBOR SUBMARINES” is in sale since Monday, July 17, 2017.
