Original Artwork the State of Maryland National Guard Crest 1924 Watercolor
This is from a set the government had discarded that was ostensibly the original artwork for the designing of the crests for the 48 State National Guard units and our associated territories. They are all original watercolors on board and are in varying condition and the time frame they were done was the 1920’s to the 1940’s and the dates are in the corners with the sign off of the relevant officer of the quartermaster general’s office. These are one of a kind design proofs for the State Guard unit crests and are extremely well done and executed. I do not know who this artist is. This design was approved by the Quartermaster’s department in 1924. It is in good condition with minor corner wear. The size is about 8″ x 10″. I focus on happy repeat customers and love what I do and try to ensure all customers are happy. I do not stay glued to my computer and have a real job so please do not expect instantaneous answers. I specialize in paper, photos, coins and militaria. I sell about anything except reproductions. If it is not old, I say so. If there is a defect, I also say so. You can always learn more in this business. If I make a mistake, and we all do, I will take responsibility for it and you can return the item.

These are one of a kind design proofs for the State Guard unit crests and are extremely well done and executed. I do not know who this artist is, it is initialed FS, but it would be interesting to understand how the US Government, or various States, went about selecting artists and having these drawings done during this period. This design was approved by the Quartermaster’s department on 1/22/24 by John A Wagner and appears to be an update to the 3/4/22 design. It is in good condition with minor corner wear. The size is about 8″ x 10″. This is a hand painted Colorado National Guard State seal and US governmental archival document from 1924 and a very rare item. Here is a wonderful WW1 USMC painted helmet. ID’d to Thomas E. Lee who was a member of the 69th Guard Company, 11th Regiment, 5th Marine Brigade, AEF. He was at Camp Pontanezen, France from what I can tell. Stunning color artwork with crossed American and French flag, large EGA to front along with German style tortoiseshell camo design. This is 100% guaranteed to be real, and is one of the most attractive Marine Corps painted helmets we have ever seen. It is pictured in full color in Alec Tulkoff’s wonderful book: Equipping the Corps. It really is a centerpiece in any USMC or Great War helmet collection. Never before offered on the open militaria market. The item “Stunning WW1 USMC Trench Art Painted AEF Helmet ID’d to Marine EGA artwork” is in sale since Friday, March 16, 2018.
