They are all original watercolors on board and are in varying condition and the time frame they were done was the 1920’s to the 1940’s and the dates are in the corners with the sign off of the relevant officer of the quartermaster general’s office. These are one of a kind design proofs for the State Guard unit crests and are extremely well done and executed. I do not know who this artist is. This design was approved by the Quartermaster’s department in 1924. It is in good condition with minor corner wear. The size is about 8″ x 10″. This design was approved by the Quartermaster’s department on 1/22/24 by John A Wagner and appears to be an update to the 3/4/22 design. It is in good condition with minor corner wear. Here is a wonderful WW1 USMC painted helmet. ID’d to Thomas E. Lee who was a member of the 69th Guard Company, 11th Regiment, 5th Marine Brigade, AEF. He was at Camp Pontanezen, France from what I can tell. Stunning color artwork with crossed American and French flag, large EGA to front along with German style tortoiseshell camo design. This is 100% guaranteed to be real, and is one of the most attractive Marine Corps painted helmets we have ever seen. It is pictured in full color in Alec Tulkoff’s wonderful book: Equipping the Corps. It really is a centerpiece in any USMC or Great War helmet collection.
