Original Artwork the State of Maryland National Guard Crest 1924 Watercolor
This is from a set the government had discarded that was ostensibly the original artwork for the designing of the crests for the 48 State National Guard units and our associated territories. They are all original watercolors on board and are in varying condition and the time frame they were done was the 1920’s to the 1940’s and the dates are in the corners with the sign off of the relevant officer of the quartermaster general’s office. These are one of a kind design proofs for the State Guard unit crests and are extremely well done and executed. I do not know who this artist is. This design was approved by the Quartermaster’s department in 1924. It is in good condition with minor corner wear. The size is about 8″ x 10″. I focus on happy repeat customers and love what I do and try to ensure all customers are happy. I do not stay glued to my computer and have a real job so please do not expect instantaneous answers. I specialize in paper, photos, coins and militaria. I sell about anything except reproductions. If it is not old, I say so. If there is a defect, I also say so. You can always learn more in this business. If I make a mistake, and we all do, I will take responsibility for it and you can return the item.

JOHANN SEITS LOT of 7 WATERCOLOR GOUACHES of ASTOR YACHT & USS McFARLAND NAVY
JOHANN SEITS LOT of 7 WATERCOLOR GOUACHES of ASTOR YACHT & USS McFARLAND NAVY. The lot consists of the following pieces; 1 large watercolor gouache framed under anti-glare glass signed and dated 1929. The subject matter is of Vincent Astor’s yacht the “Nourmahal” afloat in Dubrovnik, Croatia (Dalmatia). Vincent Astor was the heir to a large New York fortune after his father John Jacob Astor IV died on the RMS Titanic in 1912. The watercolor/gouache measures approximately 16″ x 24″ and the frame measures 18 1/2″ x 27 1/2″. Set of 6 watercolor/gouaches on 3 different pieces of paper. Each paper has a watercolor on the front and back. They are numbered 1-6. These are small studies done by Seits of various locations in Croatia (Dalmatia) of the USS McFarland Navy Destroyer. They were created as precursors to larger pieces that the artist had planned. The first watercolor is dated 1921 and the set was given to Lt. They remained in the Holmes estate his whole life. Each study is titled in pencil and each measures approximately 4 3/4″ x 6 3/8″. Each double sided watercolor is housed in a modern doubled sided glass frame that measures 7″ x 9″. These are one of a kind design proofs for the State Guard unit crests and are extremely well done and executed. I do not know who this artist is, it is initialed FS, but it would be interesting to understand how the US Government, or various States, went about selecting artists and having these drawings done during this period. This design was approved by the Quartermaster’s department on 1/22/24 by John A Wagner and appears to be an update to the 3/4/22 design. It is in good condition with minor corner wear. The size is about 8″ x 10″. This is a hand painted Colorado National Guard State seal and US governmental archival document from 1924 and a very rare item. I focus on happy repeat customers and love what I do and try to ensure all customers are happy. I do not stay glued to my computer and have a real job so please do not expect instantaneous answers.
