This is an extremely nice example of a WW2 Japanese Army Officers Shin Gunto. It is mounted with a very nice old koto blade. The early high quality type 94 koshirae with pierced tsuba remains in exceptionally nice condition. Japanese Army Officers Shin gunto Sword with a very rare Colonel Grade Tassel. The sword blade is very old and dates from no later than the late 1650s. This is mounted in above average military pattern fittings and the gilt is almost completely intact on the handle and on the scabbard as well. To the Japanese Army officer a Sword was a sacred symbol that conveyed high social status. This was a family heirloom that was re-purposed into the regulation Army Officers Shin Gunto Sword and would have certainly had great sentimental value to the Japanese Army Colonel who carried it as a badge of rank. The Japanese Military Officers Samurai sword was the most prized war trophy of the Pacific War and it was an iconic symbol of the Japanese ethos of Warfare. Shinano Kami Fujiwara Daido. Overall, 38 3/4 inches; blade, 26 inches; blade and tang, 34 3/8 inches. Sword smith name is. And he worked mainly Keian. (Mino where is todays Gifu-pref) and that name Daido continued few generation, and Shinanonomkami- Daido is first generation. Sword bears a silver Kamon (Family crest) of Samurai family. Rare and seldom encountered to find in any condition, this is a nice example of a LIGHTWEIGHT Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 28 5/8 inches in length which remains in nice original condition with only some minor surface blemishes and a bit of flaking to the plating one either side of the tip. The Shin Gunto style hilt has a bit of fraying to the wrap on one side nevertheless remains tight and sturdy. The metal scabbard also remains in good condition with only wear near the carrying ring where it was hand handled. The original tassel is lightly faded but in nice condition nonetheless. This is an extremely nice example of an outstanding high ranking Japanese Army Officer Dress Parade Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade that measures 27 1/4 inches in length which remains in near perfect condition with only some very minor surface blemishes. The exquisite guard wears an intricately detailed backstrap which includes sakura blossoms and remains in superb original condition with all of its gorgeous bright gold wash still present. The lovely carved horn hilt also remains very healthy and with its twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The plated metal scabbard remains outstanding in its condition as well. This is a very nice example of a rare and seldom encountered Large Variation Japanese Officer’s Sword, Type 19 and would have been in service all the way up to World War II. It is mounted with an impressively large near perfect blade that measures 33 1/2 inches in length by 1 1/8 inches at the widest which remains in very nice original condition. The gilded brass hilt wears a beautifully detailed pommel and pierced work guard and the composite grip is extremely well marked on either side. The guard and composite grip have survived in very nice, tight condition with most of the bright gold finish present and the hilt’s twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The plated scabbard shows flaking from wear and has a couple of dings, neverthelss does remain in very good serviceable condition as well. Overall measuring 40 3/4 inches in length.
