This is a very nice example of a rare and seldom encountered Large Variation Japanese Officer’s Sword, Type 19 and would have been in service all the way up to World War II. It is mounted with an impressively large near perfect blade that measures 33 1/2 inches in length by 1 1/8 inches at the widest which remains in very nice original condition. The gilded brass hilt wears a beautifully detailed pommel and pierced work guard and the composite grip is extremely well marked on either side. The guard and composite grip have survived in very nice, tight condition with most of the bright gold finish present and the hilt’s twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The plated scabbard shows flaking from wear and has a couple of dings, neverthelss does remain in very good serviceable condition as well. Overall measuring 40 3/4 inches in length. Although its cording is tattered, the original field grade knot is present with the knot itself is still nicely intact. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. Check out my other items. As World War II was coming to a close, the need of Swords for the Japanese Army still existed however, due to the lack of time as well as materials, swords increasingly became more crudely made in the attempt to meet the urgent need. This particular Sword is a very Late War “Last Ditch Effort” and is a very nice and rare example from this period as evidenced by the very simple wood and iron fittings. It is mounted with an arsenal War-Time blade that measures 26 1/8 inches in length which has survived in very nice condition with only some minor surface staining. The tang is signed with two characters that translates to ” TAKA MASA ” as well as is dated “Sho Wa Ju Hachi Nen Ni Gastu” which translates to “February 1943″. The hilt is wooden with a simple carved checkered design to resemble the Officer’s pattern. It is mounted with an equally simple brass tsuba and wooden scabbard that also features simple iron fittings, all remaining exceptionally nice in their condition. Overall measuring 38 7/8 inches in length. Truly a very nice, rare example for any advanced collector. This is a rare US Navy grouping for a man who was stationed on the USS NARWHAL at Pearl Harbor on Dec. See pictures 10 and 11. The group consists of his frock coat, evening dress coat, trousers with braid, and his Midshipman tunic. All are in very nice condition with only one button missing from the tunic. The fore and aft hat, epaulettes, and gold belt are in a tin box with his initials painted on top. All are in excellent condition except for the box. It is dented with paint missing and the lock is off but included. The sword is in fine condition with the scabbard showing only very minor flaking. The leather case is in good condition but is missing part of the strap to buckle it closed and some mild mothing to the liner. Scabbard is engraved with his initials and the leather case also has his initials. Interestingly his last name is misspelled on the blade, an “A” is missing. Also included is his 1931 Academy yearbook, silver anniversary yearbook, and thirty first anniversary yearbook. The papers that are included are all copies except his retirement paper. Also included is a second sword belt, a medal and a comb with missing teeth in a leather pouch which also has a rusting file. I think this is the highlight of the whole group. The USS Narwhal is credited with shooting down a Japanese Zero (along with a destroyer) which is the first submarine kill of the war. This group is from the officer who claims he shot it down. This is a rare Pearl Harbor AND submarine related group. I just noticed that in the picture of the yearbooks there is a small book titled The Silver Quiver, it does not go with this group. The crate has been in my attic for over 25 years and is under a large pile of stuff. No sense in digging it out until or if the group sells. The price listed may be lower if you live on the East Coast. It will take me a few days to dig out the crate and pack everything safely so please be patient. If you live in the area you can pick it up. The item “RARE US NAVY PRE WW2 FORMAL UNIFORM GROUP PEARL HARBOR SUBMARINES” is in sale since Monday, July 17, 2017. Exceedingly RARE to find in any condition, this is a very nice example of an Italian Partisan Lieutenant Uniform that includes both the Tunic and Breeches. The Partisans fought the Germans and Italian Army in 44 and 45 in Northern Italy and this particular Uniform is a Pre-War Design in its chocolate colored wool as well as includes the handmade insignia which was unique to the Partisans. The Tunic reflects “war sweat stains” most especially along the waistline beneath where the belt would have fit, otherwise remains in very nice, healthy condition with all the stitching still tightly in place and all the buttons still securely attached. The Tunic measures from shoulder seam to shoulder seam 16 1/2 inches across and from the top edge of the collar to the hemline 26 inches in length. The Breeches have also survived in very nice condition with all their buttons still attached and all the stitching nicely intact. The waistline measures about 32 inches and overall they measure from the top of the waistline to the breeches hemlines 28 inches in length. Truly a Rare Find Indeed!
