687b POLAND POLISH NAVY OBSERVER WINGS BADGE, bolts of lighting in gold gilt, multi piece construction, 11 pieces held together by a series of rivetes, silver gilt badge, very rare hand made by Col Bialkiewicz in London after the war. This badge is exactly the same as the original. Nothing known to me exists that comes closer to the very rare original. For those who do not know anything about Col. Bialkiewicz may be interested to know a little about this Polish patriot. A recipient of the Virtuti Militari for his heroic tank battle as a Captain at Monte Cassino. After the war he learned a trade as a jeweler making womens jewelery. His hobby was collecting and making medals and badges for exiled Polish soldiers. He donated much of his good fortune to poor Polish disabled veterans. I had the pleasure of knowing him and he shared some of his badges with me. May he rest in peace and his memory live on. Awarded to St Sierzant Jan Bartos on May 17th 1921 who was attached to the 9th Pilsudski Legion Infantry Regiment. It was awarded for the Polish Soviet War one of the greatest historical battles which changed world history resulted in the 2nd greatest Polish military victory after the Battle of Grunwald. Sgt Bartos was one of the first to be decorated with the re-instituted VM. Very rare original, 1st type VM. Mounted on an new replacement ribbon. Established by King August III as an equal to the Order of the White Eagle. While the White Eagle was awarded to individuals, the Merentibus was awarded mainly to all public and private organizations and its leaders. Which made an outstanding contribution to the Kingdom during a given year. This tradition is still alive today by some organizations. POLAND POLISH ORDER OF THE WHITE EAGLE, WWII made by Spinks for the Polish Government in Exile. It is the first issue made in 1944 during the reign of the last King of England. Please see the hallmark plate on the back of the star. On full sash ribbon. It is of superb quality unlike those made in the 1980s and 1990s. Of low quality and terrible enamels. Those were made during the reign of the current Queen and some do not even have the Spink logo and hallmarks. Collectors should know the difference between the production runs.
