ARTIFACT: Rare 1920’s Citizen Military Training Camps ring in enameled and gold-plated brass. The center of the ring shows an enameled US Shield in red and blue raised detail and surrounding it reads: “CITIZEN MILITARY TRAINING CAMPS” and each side of the ring depicts an eagle soaring with a US Shield clutched in its talons. SIZE: Approximately size 9; 15/16″ x 7/8″. MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: 14K gold-plated brass, enamel. ATTACHMENT: To be worn on finger. CONDITION: 6- (Fine): The ring shows moderate to heavy wear, some of the enamel details remain intact, overall fine condition. This is a very rare patch from the Citizens Military Training Camps. These camps operated between 1921 and 1940. This patch is most likely from the 20s or 30s. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The training camp movement: voluntary military training for the purpose of good citizenship and national defense goes back in the memory of the present generation to the camps which were organized in the United States just prior to the world war. In 1913 under the direction of Major General Leonard wood to vacation camps were held for students from educational institutions, one at Monterey California, and the other at Gettysburg Pennsylvania, the men paying their own expenses. Four camps were held the following year. Contains camp history and photos, company rosters and photos, activity/training photos.
