It advocated Austrian nationalism and independence from Germany on the basis of protecting Austria’s Catholic religious identity from what they considered a Protestant-dominated German state.

Original 1932 Austrian KuK Erzherzog-Rainer 59th Inf. Very nice original item. Constructed in two-piece silvered and gilt tombac with pin-back. Excellent multi-color enamel in perfect condition. Made by Schwertner & Cie. Issued by the Rainerbund Salzburg, an organization of the friends of the K. Infanterieregiments Erzherzog Rainer No. 59, founded in 1920 by former members of the regiment. The goal of the association was the cultivation of camaraderie and the establishment of the Rainer Regimental Museum on the fortress Hohensalzburg. Austrian Republic Army Mess Kit dated 1937. Exactly the same as Austro-Hungarian Army M1899 mess kits, though this one bears Austrian acceptance stamps of the Republic’s double-headed eagle, HBA, and 1937-the year before Germany’s Anschluss with Austria. An interesting historical piece transitioning Austro-Hungary with Nazi Germany. Good very good condition, with slight corrosion (photo 6) on bottom edge of pail.
