This is out of the estate of an east Tennessee ww 2 vet Hugh Thomas. The sword is 26 3/4 long and stamped USN 1943 NWP one one side and N. AMES SPRINGFIELD on the other. The SPRINGFIELD stamp is faint but visible. On the handle is stamped NWP on one side of the small scroll at the base and what looks like WAJ on the other side (see photos). The piece is in remarkably good condition for its age with some pitting and scratches to the blade and lots of patina to the handle. The blade is not sharpened. There are some scratches to the handle and what looks like paint marks. The scabbard has some cracks and loss to the leather but is again remarkably intact. The threads down the seam have failed and there is a some wear to the brass top and base. I know very little about this sword but it appears to be right for its age and maker. This is a very cool sword that is amazingly well preserved and will be a great addition to any collection. The item “N. P. Cavalry Sword with metal scabbard and mount rings, steel handle, grip wrapped in shagreen and twisted wire, solid iron guard, blade marked with U.
