Very Nice German Hunting Association Hirschfanger Dagger
This is a very nice example of a rare and seldom encountered German Hunting Association Hirschfänger Dagger Short Sword which dates from the early 20th Century. It is mounted with a lovely straight spearpoint blade that measures 13 1/8 inches in length. The blade has survived in superb original condition with only very light scratches near the tip nevertheless continues to wear all of the gorgeous etching on either side that features intricately detailed hunting scenes. The beautifully detailed clam shell guard wears deer hoof finials on its crossguard, is silvered finished and has now wonderfully patined to a pretty blue hue. The lovely stag horn hilt fits well in the grip and is crowned with an acorn-tipped pommel with its silvered fittings also now very nicely patined to blue. The fabulous textured leather scabbard is fitted with beautiful coordinating silvered fittings, remains very healthy as well and is also mounted with its original very nice brown leather frog.
