Unmarked but tested silver. A very nice example in a good size. Please see my other auctions for more items from this estate and other estate military items. Thank you and good luck! As required by your country’s laws, they are not charged by me and I have no responsibility toward them.
Gorgeous and very rare, possibly one-of-a-kind emblem. What you see here is a theater-made officer cover EGA based off the enlisted P-1908. The rope was removed presumably by grinding or filing, and then the emblem was sand cast. After casting, the wire rope was added and the eagle’s head wear twisted in the opposite direction. I believe this to be German-made rather than French, based on German-made sand-casted collar emblems I have seen over the years. I will be listing several pieces from Mr. Snyder’s collection in the coming days/weeks. The item “WWI USMC Marine Officer EGA German Theater Made Pin Badge D. Snyder Collection” is in sale since Sunday, September 19, 2021. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Militaria\1919-38\Original Period Items”. Rare Opportunity to own a pair of Original WWI press photos of Medal of Honor Recipient, and 14th Commandant (also shortest serving commandant) of the Marine Corps, Wendell C. These photos are date stamped 1918 and 1919, and were both used as press photos for an unknown publication during the great war. They are both credited to “Bain News Service” of New York City. There is some wear to both photos as shown. They are printed with period correct silver gelatin, and are guaranteed to be as advertised. They each measure just under 7″ by 5″.
