This is an original silver medal from 1936 that was likely used briefly as a pocket piece by a proud Chinese Officer-cadet who graduated from Chang’s Training School (L&M956A). Very Rare Antique Chinese Republic Army Officer General? The sword is made in the style of the Japanese Meiji Period Officer’s Kyu-gunto Katana sword, with a large solid brass D shaped guard, decorated in inner side with two crossed National Flags of the Republic of China, a Five bar – coloured flag. Please see the links below. The brass back-strap with an integral helmet formed pommel stamped on the top with 98, is engraved with Iron Blood 18-Star of Wuchang Uprising, flanked by 4 five pointed stars, possibly the rank of the Superior General First Class of the Chinese Army Yjíshangjiàng. But we are not assured, amidst the floral garlands also adorned with 4 five pointed stars. For the ranks of Chinese army please see the link below. The wooden grip is covered in Ray skin and wrapped in twisted and straight brass wire, brass ring with the button to release the locking mechanism that holds the scabbard to the hilt, stamped with 98. The slightly curved, long and sturdy, steel blade in the form of Japanese Katana blade (possibly an original Japanese blade) is chrome or nickel plated, but still sharp. The steel scabbard, with wood insert, original to the sword, with single suspension ring is stamped on the mouth, and the shoe with 178. Most of the Chinese republic dress swords are with a crudely made brass hilt and poor quality tiny blades. This particular sword which we are offering for sale is with a superb quality hilt and strong katana type blade which is fairly scarce and unique. We were not able to find another sword of comparable quality in any of the references, including the internet sources. Possibly this is the only example of this rare sword known to exist, and this may be the only chance in life to acquire such an authentic, unique example, of Chinese sword. CONDITION: In good condition considering its age, Showing the wear and the usage. The nickel or chrome plating on the steel blade slightly worn with some light surface staining, the tip with a small nick. The brass hilt with remains of the silver color plating. So it is possible that the brass hilt was plated, or just highlighted by silver, nickel, or chrome plating. The steel scabbard with surface rust, and one minor dent on the spine. The Blade and the scabbard can be easily cleaned, but we left the sword in untouched condition, as it was found. MEASUREMENTS (approximately): The overall length in the scabbard is: 96.5 cm (37.99 inches). The overall length of the sword without the scabbard: 89 cm (35.04 inches). Maker– Herald marked on the mainspring winding wheel as pictured. Case Material– 9K Solid Gold. Case Color– Pinkish Yellow. Functions are also checked-date -day-timers functions etc. Any function problems that we find at the time will be noted or corrected. Watch cases are sanitized by steam and ultrasonic cleaning methods so that the new owner won’t have the previous owners dirt and grime to deal with. Looks to have used silver solder as the repair lines look silverish in color. The grill guard is not original to this watch but with the guard attached you don’t see the bezel edge imperfections. Offered here is an incredibly rare and extensive French Foreign Legion medal/document group to one man, Charles Volmer (Vollmer) a. Senior NCO with 1er REC, Legion Etrangere (1st Regiment of Foreign Cavalry, French Foreign Legion). This group is absolutely original and as found. It was obtained directly from a family member of Volmer (great-grand daughter). Nothing has been pieced together or added. Volmer began service with the Legion in North Africa in the 1920s and served with them through the end of the war. After the war, Volmer continued his service with the French military police/legal administration in the French zone of Occupied Germany. The material included here are as follows – Croix de Guerre TOE medal w/ two stars, Colonial Medal w/ claps for Sahara and Maroc, Combatant’s Cross, Moroccan Order of Ouissam Alaouite Al Alaoui, ribbon bar, rank stripe, Autonomous Group 1er REC pocket badge (rare), Comité des Amitiés Africaines pocket badge, Military Police – French Zone of Military Occupation Germany pocket badge (very scarce) and General Personnel, French Zone of Military Occupation Germany pocket badge (very scarce), two photo certificates for medal awards and one French Zone of Military Occupation Hunting License along with Volmer’s pigskin leather wallet and one business card which itemizes Volmer’s decorations. Also present are six Diplome and citations for all of Volmer’s valor and service awards: Medaille Militaire, Croix de Guerre TOE, Colonial Medal, Sahara Clasp, Colonial Medal, Moroc Clasp, Combatant’s Cross, Moroccan Order of Ouissam Alaouite Al Alaoui, Volmer’s French Mle35 Motorized Troops helmet (very scarce). Also accompanying this group and included as supporting provenance is a collection of seven pieces of paper identification belonging to Volmer’s wife, issued by a variety of French civilian and military authorities, to include passport, travel and a safe conduct pass issued by the Free French Forces administration in Tunisia. Condition wise, the medals are ex-fine, the Moroccan Order having some minor enamel damage, as often seen. The Diplome and certificates are mostly good, some with minor tears, one certificate had been folded to the point of separation (happened long ago, as evidenced by ancient tape marks). The Helmet is quite nice, it’s missing one liner suspension spring hook from the inside front, the leather being mostly good, still soft with only a few minor stress issues. The paint, outside leather and badge are exceptional. All in all, this is a tremendously historic group and it represents the outstanding and courageous service of a superior soldier in an elite unit. A group of this caliber is nearly impossible to find. I’ve searched extensively and can’t find a comparable group to a Legionnaire. More pics available upon request.
