This is a rare and original pair of Knights Pythias shoulder epaulettes, styled after the US Army’s 1872 design. It is not a modified item and is considered original, adding to its collectible value. This is a Serbian Order of St. Sava, 5th Class Knight’s Cross, Type III. This version shows the Saint in Green Robes. Unmarked as to maker. Light contact marks and enamel chipping on rear points. Measures 41mm x 67mm including the crown suspension. The Order was established by King Milan I in 1883, was named for St. Sava, and was a civil decoration awarded for services to the Church, to the Royal House, and to the State. The Order of Saint Sava was an Order of Merit and was first awarded by the Kingdom of Serbia in 1883 and later by the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, Slovenes, and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia until the abolition of the Monarchy in 1945.
