This photo album was acquired from a large lot of photos once owned by RAYMOND A. STOCKWELL went on to the rank of 1st Lt. And on January 6th, 1942 along with two fellow crewmen was killed in a crash of a twin-engine Beechcraft F-2 Plane after it crashed head-on into Pilot Rock near Ashland, Oregon killing all aboard. Take a look at my feedback to see how other buyers liked my previous US Navy Photo albums. You will have a hard time finding one like this again. The album is approximately 13.5″ x9″ x 1 and it has approximately 270 black and white period photographs held in with paper corners. Approximately 120 are on or of the Pennsylvania herself and other U. Warships she came in contact with. I would guess another 20 to 30 are of sailors on the beach. Most of the photos have captions under them identifying ships or crew members. But the sailor himself is not identified. Many of these photos are original and unpublished and I really think they are exceptional. Around a half dozen of the photos are missing. I see this leather album cover is unique with heavy embossing on a nautical theme with the Pennsylvania photo in the center and it is in pretty good condition, but the binding straps look to be replacements for the usual rawhide ones. But the photos are the most important thing and they are very nice. Some of the interesting photos are first photo from the bow with a lot of detail of the fore turrets and the bridge. The #5 shot from the bridge showing the fore turrets. And the last photo is rare because it is from inside the 14 gun turret #4, which seems to be this sailor’s action station. I have saved this for years and now I realize I need to clear out some space for different interests. I will pack it back up very well. Please check my other auctions. This listing is for a scarce late 1920’s CHINA MARINE 8″ x 11″ personal leather cover photo album put together by USMC private George C. Lewis assigned to the 10th Marines. Contains over 113 photos and documents. Less than 10% are family photos the remainder being USMC marines in various period uniforms and activities. Henderson that arrived in Shanghai China on 2 May 1927 with Marines for the garrison there and remained in China for 6 months. The detachment was assigned to protect American Nationals in the war-torn China area. A great find for the USMC collector and historians.
