From an estate, a handwritten diary that was found with other military items from a US 4. Marine Veteran, George Mowerr, who was in China, WW II and Korea. The diary was written by five Marines (their rank and last names listed on the first page) while on duty in China from Dec. 28, 1934 through Feb 1, 1935. There are 65 full-sized pages, handwritten in pencil, describing their trip up the Yangtze River where they were detailed as Armed Guards for the Yangtze Rapid Steamship Co. And later transferred to the I Pinged and I Chang ships. An interesting paragraph on the first page of the diary: This was written in the simple words of those who made the trip, so that as they ramble through its pages, they may live over again in their memory those days spent on the Yangtze River. I have to agree after reading this diary, very interesting details of their trip with lots of scenery descriptions of the river, weather and people who lived along the river. Paragraphs on Chinese ships and soldiers, description of night watch looking out for bandits and Reds. One of the trips ashore is described as, By chance we were witness to a very interesting sight this afternoon. We saw a number of Chinese soldiers forcing a number of Chinese civilians into service in the army. They must have had about a thousand of these recruits and they marched them down the streets four abreast. It goes into more detail, ending with the sampan going over the rapids. Many more interesting events, their thoughts and observations of the Chinese way of life, and beautiful descriptions of the scenery. A very well written diary with some sentences crossed out. Not sure if the diary is complete because it ends on Feb. With no mention of any transfer or change in duty, only that they were close to Shanghai. It ends with, We anchored for the night at 2200. Shaw said that the Captain told him we would be in Shanghai about 1000 tomorrow. Nelson is becoming more and more restless. He is longing for the dear old Shanghai nights. It is mounted with a beautiful blade that measures 29 3/8 inches in length which remains in nice condition with lovely etching on either side as well as is engraved with the name of the original owner on one side. The gilded brass guard is simple in design and remains in good condition with just some wear to the gold finish and frames nice composite grips that have now richly mellowed with age and remain tightly in place. The metal scabbard wears nicely detailed brass fittings and although now has some light oxidation to the plating, does remain in good serviceable condition with no dings. This is a 100% original USMC Officers Dress Uniform named to Karl F. Included in the lot is his complete dress uniform. Umlor shows up on the WW1 96th and 83rd company rosters and looks to have been with the 6th Marines throughout the entire war. In September 1918 he was commissioned to 2nd Lt. The group is as I got it. I added the Sam Brown belt and the collar Egas. The Sam brown belonged to LtGen EA Craig (belt marked) who was award the Navy Cross in WW2. As stated I added the collar Egas. They are marked Meyers and are clutch back. The cover is as nice as they get. It does have a 10k marked ega. I do not see and mouthing on the cover trousers or blouse. There is a name tag in the blouse. This uniform is mannequin ready. I will also include some of his records (copies) that came with the group. A very rare item and a must have for the WW1 Marine Corps collector. Do not miss out on this rare opportunity.
