Original late 1920’s USMC officer photo of Captain Walter Sweet, 8″ x 10″. Sweet (as a Gunnery Sergeant) was awarded the Navy Cross and Distinguished Service Cross for actions with the 16th Company, 5th Marine Regiment at Chateau-Thierry for taking out two machineguns and a mortar nest. He was also awarded 3 Silver Star Citations and the French Croix de Guerre. He is seen with his award ribbons, droop wing EGAs, French fourragere, and shooting badges. He enlisted in 1911 and was a veteran of many Banana Wars.. He served nearly 28 years. Please pay upon receipt of invoice.
Original early 1930’s photograph of Captain George Bowers, USMC. As a 2nd Lt in WW1, Bowers was awarded the Navy Cross and Distinguished Service Cross for action at Thiacourt, France in 1918 while with the 81st Company, 6th MG Battalion. He was also awarded two Silver Stars, two Purple Hearts and three French Croix de guerre Medals. He earned a battlefield commission and was a “Mustang” Marine. He also served in Haiti and the USS Arizona. He is shown in his dress blue uniform and cap with Sam Browne sword belt, EGAs and ribbons denoting his heroism and awards. 81st Company, 6th Machine-Gun Battalion, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A. Date of Action: September 15, 1918. The Navy Cross is presented to George Bower, Second Lieutenant, U. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 81st Company, 6th Machine-Gun Battalion, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A. In action near Thiaucourt, France, September 15, 1918. Aiding an infantry platoon, which had been forced to withdraw because of heavy machine-gun and artillery fire, Lieutenant Bower, while suffering from severe wounds, kept his guns in position, consolidating his location, and preventing the danger of an enemy counterattack. Born: at Torresdale, Pennsylvania. Home Town: Torresdale, Pennsylvania. Other Award: Distinguished Service Cross (Same Action). This photo was submitted by him and was removed at some point from his file. Marines were required to submit a photo for the next rank and have their name on the back. I believe it is his printing. The jacket is named to Corporal Joseph F. He joined the U. Marine Corps in 1923 and served as a sea going marine on several battleships and spent time with the 3rd and 4th Marines. Quigley was discharged in 1930. The jacket is in very good condition. There’s a little fading and there’s one small hole behind the neck area. There seems to be a couple of water stains to the bottom area, shown in photos. Jacket is very small in size. One of the Corporal patches has some moth damage. I added the EGAs to complete the jacket, and will be included. The EGAs are bronze and are the correct period and issue for the jacket. Feel free to ask questions or request more photos.
