This is an extremely nice example of a WW2 Japanese Army Officers Shin Gunto. It is mounted with a very nice old koto blade. The early high quality type 94 koshirae with pierced tsuba remains in exceptionally nice condition. The metal saya is finished in an brown color, however what really sets this koshirae apart from most others, is the original red and brown field officers tassel hanging from the cord sarute. (Field Officer Tassels where carried by officers with the rank of Major Colonel). Shinano Kami Fujiwara Daido. Overall, 38 3/4 inches; blade, 26 inches; blade and tang, 34 3/8 inches. Sword smith name is. And he worked mainly Keian. (Mino where is todays Gifu-pref) and that name Daido continued few generation, and Shinanonomkami- Daido is first generation. This is an older strait blade police sword , with the Prussian dove head design. The maker marks are lightly been removed at one time. The leather scabbard is in above good condition , as is the German silver plating, on the throat of the scabbard, the d guard, the drag , and the dove head. This has initials on the frog as well as the name and the company of the person who captured it , but is hard to read. The blade is 25 1/4 inches long, and the scabbard has a stud to attach to the belt. If anyone knows what model or maker please past it on to me. This sword is 32 inches long, and has a slight dimple in the drag. The wooden grip is in above good condition , as is the blade, with the tinniest bit of rounding on the tip. The leather frog has some wear around the stud hole. The belt slide is strong, and the black leather scabbard in above good condition. Overall it is an honest original set that has that out of the attic look to it, not overly cleaned or restored. The EGA is a 1936 Pattern , There is a maker Information stamp on the inside of the sweatband but I used a black light and everything I could think of to make it out but no luck. The owners last name is also on the inside of the band first initial is not readable the last name is “BURCH, ” the hat appears from what I can tell is a Model 1929 Pattern. It show field use with some ware. It holds its shape very well and has NOT been oiled or dyed. The stiching is tight and still white to off white. The back of the holster is marked R. Which is probaly the GI that captured it. This might not be a mint holster but still shows very well. This camera appears to be have used in the military and may be of historical significance as it was owned by Norman E Cook. If you google him, you will find some interesting articles about him. He was born in Canada in 1875. Became a US Philippine Scout in 1901. A few years later around 1905 he was on military trial for manslaughter but later acquitted. He was promoted and reappointed several times as Captain. He retired in 1919. Now this camera is a Graflex 1A. Not sure at what point the camera was used and what for. The camera based on the latest date was around 1916. This is the info that we were able to gather so far. It is a tad bit dusty. The lens is a Bausch and Lomb Tessar 3.25×4.25. It has Norman E Cook’s name on the back of the camera as well as his three addresses: Army and Navy Club Manilla PI, California Tennis Club San Francicsco, CA and River Road, Youngstown, NY.
