This is a nice U. Marines Corps Regulation Sword which dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful blade that measures 29 3/8 inches in length which remains in nice condition with lovely etching on either side as well as is engraved with the name of the original owner on one side. The gilded brass guard is simple in design and remains in good condition with just some wear to the gold finish and frames nice composite grips that have now richly mellowed with age and remain tightly in place. The metal scabbard wears nicely detailed brass fittings and although now has some light oxidation to the plating, does remain in good serviceable condition with no dings. This is a good example of a well made Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a lovely arsenal machine made blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 1/4 inches in length and remains in very nice original condition with only some minor surface blemishes. The tang wears the signature ” KANETSADA saku” on one side and a date that translates to “Showa juhachinen kugatsu”Showa 18th year (1943)September on the other side. All the fittings remain nice and clean however the wrapping has a bit of fraying near the top but does remain tightly in place. This is an exceptionally nice example of a Japanese Non-Regulation Naval Officer’s Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful, well made Antique Shinto Blade that wears a cutting edge of 26 1/2 inches. The blade has survived in superb condition in gorgeous polish with only some very minor surface blemishes and does boast a fabulously active straight temper line. The tang wears two holes and is signed on one side which translates to “Fujiwara SADATSUGU “. The hilt and all the fittings remain in excellent condition as well. The wooden scabbard continues to wear its beautiful leather combat covering that also remain in outstanding, healthy condition. Still present, is the original brown double tassel, complete with braided slide which remains near mint in its condition. Overall measuring 38 1/2 inches in length.
