Pre WWII Polish wz. Here is a wz. 31 helmet that has been in my collection for a number of years. The helmet is an original pot with original liner and chinstrap. At one time this helmet was painted black on the outside and the inside rim – as can be evidenced by remnants of black paint on the liner. Someone has removed the black paint and repainted it green with a close resemblance to the original color. Whoever did this was very careful not to damage the inside markings or the liner/chinstrap. An attempt was made to recreate the original salamandra finish, but it is lacking its original appearance. The inside of the helmet behind the liner still has its original paint stamping bearing Ludwikow 98 37. It also has its K2 ink stamp and its copper control rivet with K2 acceptance stamp. The liner has a K2 stamp and all 3 pads in place. I believe them to be original as they seem to be filled with a coarse animal hair. The leather is in great shape for its age without dry rot, but I would not consider it soft/supple. These helmets are very scarce, especially with intact leather component and markings. It is a wonderful representative piece, that will add to any helmet collection. Please let me know if you have any questions. Pre-WWII 1929 US Navy Good Conduct Medal USS Penguin AM33 Pharmacists Mate Named Tabs. Named to Paul E Pirrone who was a Pharmacist Mate USS Penguin Lapwing-class Minesweeper. Served in Haitian Campaign, China WWI, and Interwar period around the world. Direct from his Estate. Both Clasps are named and engraved to! Arrived in New York in November 1919 and, after a major overhaul, was sent to join the Pacific Fleets Mine Squadron 4, which was based in the eastern Pacific. Continued working as a minesweeper until 1 June 1922, when she was decommissioned and placed in reserve at Pearl Harbor. Was re-commissioned 13 October 1923 and was converted into a gunboat for service with the US Navys Asiatic Fleet. She left Pearl Harbor and headed west to become part of the famous Yangtze Patrol and was based at Shanghai. Although this was supposed to be only a temporary assignment. Remained with the Yangtze Patrol for seven years, protecting American lives and property while battling Chinese pirates and warlords. Sailed to Cavite in the Philippines for a brief period of time before being ordered to go to Guam. With the coming of World War II in the Pacific, Japan invaded China and was making ominous moves towards many of the islands in the region. Was ordered to increase her patrols around Guam and to guard against any Japanese warships that could potentially threaten the island. No one really knew, though, what the small and poorly armed gunboat could do if it encountered units from the enormous Japanese Navy. 1937 Imperial Japanese Navy Training Photo Album Book RARE Pre-WWII. The pages are divided by thin rice paper that has printed Japanese Text. The pages of the book are full of Japanese Text as well, especially the rear final pages which look to be perhaps a listing to all the crew members! This Vintage Japanese Imperial Navy album is in good condition for its age, showing some mild edge wear to the covers. The binding is original and is holding strong, albeit slightly loose. The interior pages shows light-mild scuffing and coloration from age/display. The rice paper dividers are in good shape, with only 1 missing and some light creasing present in a few pages.
