1937 Imperial Japanese Navy Training Photo Album Book RARE Pre-WWII. The pages are divided by thin rice paper that has printed Japanese Text. The pages of the book are full of Japanese Text as well, especially the rear final pages which look to be perhaps a listing to all the crew members! This Vintage Japanese Imperial Navy album is in good condition for its age, showing some mild edge wear to the covers. The binding is original and is holding strong, albeit slightly loose. The interior pages shows light-mild scuffing and coloration from age/display. The rice paper dividers are in good shape, with only 1 missing and some light creasing present in a few pages. WW2 Photo Album China 1937 Japanese Army Occupation Nanking Nanjing Zaozhuang Xuzhou with 384 Photographs Album has descriptions in Japanese on the pages or under the photographs. Some of the cities and counties include Hanzhuang, Jining, Yi, Yixian, Zaozhuang, Xuzhou, Shandong, Jiangsu, Weishan Lake, Han Village, and others. We have seen quite a few Photo Albums that centered around China including many from US servicemen who served in Country. Some were in the 1920s or before and others focusing on just after WW2 US occupation. This album is different in its content and scope because of all the rare locations and subject matter covered. Normally, most Japanese soldier’s photo albums have no Chinese content and if they do is just a small amount of content. What makes the album rare is that all the photos are from towns and cities in China rarely seen. One series of photos shows Japanese soldiers repairing a hotel to be used for comfort women. They hang up a new wooden sign, Hotel Pyeongyang House over “Maohe Hotel” sign. Now to be used as comfort station. What follow is a few pages of photos of comfort women with some obviously Korean and Chinese, and some may be even Japanese. Another series of photos depicts Japanese soldiers and Chinese installing telephone poles. Some of the photographs including marriage ceremony, funerals, soldiers caravans, railroad stations, bridges, war damage, trains, drinking, fishing, farming, weapons, Pagodas, monuments, Shrines, tractors, etc. Surprisingly no gore or death scenes with just a few prisoners and punishment scenes. Without knowing the history of Japan occupation of China, one viewing this album might conclude peace and harmony between Japanese soldiers and Chinese during the war. USS Palos Luzon photo album GUNBOATS Yangtze River China 1936-37 11 x 15 70 pages. Vintage 1936-37 photograph album that belonged to Seaman Fred Siebold during his time on the gunboats USS Palos and the USS Luzon on the Yangtze River in China during the second Sino-Japanese war and rape of Nanking. Over 400 photos total. Many of the photographs record mundane events and street life in China, but there are some blatantly racist ones and disturbing images of war, famine and death. In addition to the well annotated photographs there are a few pieces of ephemera, Siebolds meritorious service award (1947), a menu and maps, etc. The majority of the photos are tipped in with typewritten captions tipped in as well. One large photo and the last 13 pages are laid down on the page with no corners. The beautifully tooled leather cover in is immaculate condition. Pre WW2 1927 China US Army 15th Regiment Tientsin 320+ Photographs Tianjin Photo Album was put together by US Army Soldier who served with the 15th Regiment Company “L” in Tientsin China. Not sure on exact date or name of the Soldier but is between 1925 to 1927 I believe. There is a large group photograph in beginning of album very sharp (10.5 by 7 inches) that may show George Marshall who was commanding the 15th Regiment at that time. I have attached many photographs some are scanned and other taken with a camera. Some loose photos and some missing on the pages. Photo are not stuck in, however the corner tabs have stuck to the front of the images. So left on the images is a small black remnant on the photo corner. Some corners have disconnected from the corner holders. These probably can be moistened and removed if so desired. I did pull a few off to see if there was some description on the reverse. I counted over 330 photographs. Over 90% are China with the remainder Philippines and a few Stateside. Please scroll down to see the photos of the album.
