1933 Polish Military Soldier Shooting Award Mantle Desk Statue Figure Krasnik! We have an interesting 1933 Polish Military Soldier Statue! The metal statue stands on a marble base. The base has two engraved plaques, the engraving is in Polish, so we have tried translating the best we could. The smaller plaque on the front reads (this is more scratched in): zdobyla przez k. Oghisko krasnik dnia 11. We think translated it means: a transit award of the commander of the poviat poviat for the best team shooting in Krasnik.. Won by the kpw oghisko krasnik of the day 1933. So we believe this may have been some type of military shooting award from the 1930s. If anyone can help further with the translation it would be greatly appreciated. A great piece of military history! About 10 1/4″ tall, the base is 6″ long. Made of metal, and marble. There are a few small nicks along the bottom edge of the marble base (nothing serious). This camera appears to be have used in the military and may be of historical significance as it was owned by Norman E Cook. If you google him, you will find some interesting articles about him. He was born in Canada in 1875. Became a US Philippine Scout in 1901. A few years later around 1905 he was on military trial for manslaughter but later acquitted. He was promoted and reappointed several times as Captain. He retired in 1919. Now this camera is a Graflex 1A. Not sure at what point the camera was used and what for. The camera based on the latest date was around 1916. This is the info that we were able to gather so far. It is a tad bit dusty. The lens is a Bausch and Lomb Tessar 3.25×4.25. It has Norman E Cook’s name on the back of the camera as well as his three addresses: Army and Navy Club Manilla PI, California Tennis Club San Francicsco, CA and River Road, Youngstown, NY. Full length uncut military step down barrel stock from a Turkish 98 Mauser. See above for a detailed listing of condition. OAL is 45 & 1/4. Action measurement is 7 & 7/8 Center-to-Center. Tapered magazine well measures 1 & 1/16″ wide at rear, 7/8″ wide at the front. 4 & 1/8 long from the rear of the slot to the front of the mag well. The only markings that I could see on the stock are a “0” in the inset in front of the magazine well. A number “1” in the bottom of the stock in front of the inset. And a “0” on the top inset between the magazine well and the locking lug. No Cartouche stamps or markings of any kind. Only metal hardware included is the stacking hole sleeve, rear sling swivel, and the front plate shown in picture 11. Stock includes only what is shown in pictures. Nothing more, nothing less.
