Rare and seldom encountered to find in any condition, this is a nice example of a LIGHTWEIGHT Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 28 5/8 inches in length which remains in nice original condition with only some minor surface blemishes and a bit of flaking to the plating one either side of the tip. The Shin Gunto style hilt has a bit of fraying to the wrap on one side nevertheless remains tight and sturdy. The metal scabbard also remains in good condition with only wear near the carrying ring where it was hand handled. The original tassel is lightly faded but in nice condition nonetheless.
