This is a very nice example of an Italian Air Force Dress Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a very nice straight, fullered blade that measures 30 1/4 inches in length. The blade is beautifully etched with bright blue and gold on either side, is marked by the maker E & F Hörster Solingen on the ricasso and remains in superb original condition. The lovely cup guard is in the motif of a full eagle’s wing with the pommel in the image of an eagle’s head and remains in nice tight condition. The black painted wooden hilt reflects a little wear to the painted finish, otherwise remains nice as well and the original twisted wire wrap is still securely in place. The metal scabbard is leather covered and beautifully fitted with the top fitting featuring the Air Force emblem. The handle is round, wooden, plastic-topped orange. By spiral grooves handle wrapped with wire. At the bottom of a cylindrical sleeve, decorated with ornaments made of oak leaves. Rare original Chinese medal, pre WW2. Includes the medal, a ribbon device (which is pin back with a metal backing) and the original cloth issue envelope. The medal and ribbon device are both stamped with number 7399. The envelope is stamped 7399. The medal measures approximately 1 3/4 across at the widest. The pin back ribbon device measures approximately 1 3/16 long and the envelope measures approximately 2 3/8 x 3 5/8. The ribbon shows soiling and the medal some age discoloration. The ribbon device has rust stains around the edge. Very usual to find all three numbered pieces together. Maker– Herald marked on the mainspring winding wheel as pictured. Case Material– 9K Solid Gold. Case Color– Pinkish Yellow. Functions are also checked-date -day-timers functions etc. Any function problems that we find at the time will be noted or corrected. Watch cases are sanitized by steam and ultrasonic cleaning methods so that the new owner won’t have the previous owners dirt and grime to deal with. If for some reason the case can’t be cleaned we will note that. Dial Condition– Nice original porcelain dial with new luminous added. Hands are also original with new luminous. Original domed glass crystal. Case Condition–Ok used with wear around the bezel edge with at some time in the past was repaired. Looks to have used silver solder as the repair lines look silverish in color. The grill guard is not original to this watch but with the guard attached you don’t see the bezel edge imperfections. Some tarnish spots on the case back as pictured. Case Size– 37mm Lug End to End , 33mm Across the case not including the Crown.
